Hartman: one of the only dudes willing to go to the front of the net IMO.
- Hank3Henshaw

Add Hayden to that list. And while Hartman is very strong for his size, Hayden is a large man and VERY tough to move. I noticed in several post whistle scrums in front of the net that Dmen would try to give Hayden a shot or get him out of the crease and he didn't even budge.

Forgot to add Hayden in there. I really like him.

He actually uses his big frame to his advantage--sets up in front of the net and doesn't get moved around.

I think that's what they wanted Jimmy Hayes to do, but he just never really clicked.

Oh Oh ... Tracey Myers also tweeted:

Schmaltz went down in the corner, favoring left hand. He's headed to the room.

Hopefully Schmaltz is okay and it's nothing serious. My god we don't need anymore practice injuries this time of the season

Schmaltz is a nasty setup man. I like that role for him.

I think he compliments a lot of the guys well. It's like the Gretz/Kurri thing, you don't need every player to be a superstar, but you need guys that can compliment your stars and I think Schmaltz is that man.

Hope he's OK.

our stockpile is pretty limited I know, but what would it take to land Schmaltz from you guys.

farkkkkkkkk.

Schmaltz is going to be a good one for you guys. Pairing him with Boeser would actually give us a good chance at possibly having a capable 1st line in the future

Schmaltz is just getting started so we don't know where he'll end up with another season or two under his belt ... so it's hard to put a value on something that is still improving ... in other words it would probably take something you don't want to give up like Horvat.

Couple of articles I found interesting today.

1) Putting Panarin's performance in perspective: https://theathletic.com/4...s-place-among-nhls-elite/

2) View on when a skater peaks in his career - per this analysis (with some admitted bias from special teams/years in league), it's 22-25. Interesting when I look at comments earlier this year about Toews, the Panarin article, etc.

Yeah, we're excited about our young players. I'll be the first to admit I'm prone to drinking Hawks koolaid and maybe just maybe getting a little carried away with optimism.

But, Hartman and Schmaltz are playing very well and look to be keepers. Hayden has played only 4 games but looks better than expected and if he keeps it up he will be a major player for the Hawks moving forward. Then there are the two JR players that look very promising - Alex DeBrincat who scored 65 goals in 63 games this season for Erie in the OHL (after scoring 50 and 51 the previous 2 seasons) and Alex Fortin who was "only" a point per game scorer this season but he looked very good in training camp and pre-season games before going back to his JR team. He's a very good skater and reminds me of Mike Hoffman.

Hartman played a bit of center ice in the past. No?

Yep but not in the NHL as I recall or for any length of time

What advantage does Q believe is necessary in playing Campbell at LD instead of Kempny. That right NOW Campbell is better?

Tonight's game should not turn on Campbell playing over Kempny. Kempny gains experience and confidence by playing. A team needs eight dmen deep and each relatively fresh - not missing much game action as a press box observer. The playoffs is a marathon.

We all know that Q is a good coach but this does not mean he makes some bone head decisions along the way. Kempny ought to tell management that he needs to play more, else he might not want to return next season.

Kempny had a decent stretch of play before Oduya was acquired and while Hammer was injured. However, Campbell has been very solid and Soupy-TVR is as reliable a 3rd pair as you will see in the NHL this year. Kempny is too mistake prone, but I agree that he should continue to see spot action. He needs to stay in game-shape mentally and physically in case an injury occurs and he is forced into the lineup on a nightly basis. I think he shouldve been in the Vancouver game or Avs game, if anything.
