So, in all honesty, Who specifically is being held back by Bylsma?

Kane is who he has always been
ROR is who he was in Colorado
Lehner has been fine
Okposo was producing at the rate along his career average
Reinhart is playing fantastic, just to avoid this debate
McCabe is progressing
Bogo is the same mess he was in WPG

You can make a case for a small handful

They haven't figured out Risto in his own end
Girgensons is one that genuinely might not fit with Bylsma
Ennis - but you can point to injuries
Gorges was played way too much by Bylsma last year.

- sbroads24

I could say Eichel is being held back, but I don't think that's the point.

I don't look at it on an individual basis. I look at it on a team basis. And I don't think he is getting the results he should with this talent.

And I don't base that on individual players stats, I base that on the number of times this team failed to compete for 60 minutes. And I base it on the number of times they were not ready to play from the first puck drop. And I base it on the number of games they lost by one goal, or by one goal and an Empty Netter.

And I say that the way the play the game, and their fragility, and the number of times they choked when they had a chance to take the next step, are ALL on the coaching staff, and are the difference between this team being described as "flawed and ineffective", and this team being described as "talented and missing a few crucial pieces."

there was a few decent d men in free agency last year, you had to trade for their rights to lock him up

instead we trade for vesey and we all know how that worked

who - and did they fit?

On the forwards: The calculated and slow breakout means that players like Okposo and ROR (who are not fast) have to wait until under we have complete control before exiting the zone. We never get breakaways, and i don't think that's a speed issue. That's a gameplan where we wait to breakout and allow the other team to reset in the neutral zone and force a dump in. His emphasis is on playing tight in the D zone - defense creates offense. Well, that failed miserably and he never adjusted. He's just pounding his head against the wall hoping that he'll break through. We have 6 20 goal scorers and we never put them in a position to score. Eichel should have way more breakaways but Bylsma has him doing loops in the D zone to pick the puck up and then skate through 5 guys.

It's madness

I attribute this to our defense getting pinned constantly, and a lack of speed on the fore-check.

Kane has had quite a few breaks, because he uses speed and pressures the defense.

Our D is not skilled enough to put passes on the tape coming out of the zone, case in point Bogo on several occasions against Pitt

There is literally not 1 redeeming thing about this season. Not for the owner, GM or the coach.

Not Eichel scoring at just under a ppg, not our goalies being top-10 in sv% for 3/4 of the season, not our special teams (#1 PP + #30 PK = #15 ST), not our FA signing, none of our training camp experiments (Grant) and none of the trades (or lack thereof).

The biggest losers in all of this are the fans. So to everyone saying they're sick of hearing us female dog, I say you settle in life for mediocrity across the board.

We have NOT seen an exciting Sabres team in well over 5 years now.

That's at the very least what we wanted. A competitive, exciting team. Instead we got a bunch of head-cases and cry-asses with a coach who'd ice a team of Kaleta, Ellis and Mair on every line if he could.

I forgot to mention Kane. He has by far the most breakways on the team, which is great. He just bolts out of the D zone. If the D men had guys breaking out of the zone, they would have a better option than playing "you take it" to their D partner behind the net. Passing it to Reinhart on the half wall for a break out has not and will not work

On a side note, Kaleta, Ellis and Mair would make a great law firm name.

Common ground. But can they carry the puck out?

Why does our coach continue to employ a system that relies on this method of attack?

Could this not also be a case of a team refusing to buy into the coach and just playing how they want to?

What's going to happen when they don't like something the next coach does?
