Bart?

Gio-Dougie
Brodie-Stone
Fat Rass-Bart

Definitely like the price tag on Bart but maybe someone else from within like Kulak or Kylington. Maybe that Swede who just joined the Heat....not sure. More from a salary cap perspective, it looks like after adding a goalie and a top 4 D, they're going to be up against it. Especially with Backlund coming up in a year. I just don't think BT can afford anymore bad signings going forward.

At a quick throw together with no cap increase, and not accounting for somebody leaving in the expansion draft.

Up against the cap, but it depends on who Vegas takes, and could always tinker in other ways (buy outs, trades, etc.)

Fair, don't disagree, I'm just seeing the coaches philosophy seems to be to go R-L.

On the cap:

Renewals after this year (likely to be re-signed)
- Ferland - total "?" after a largely up and down season.
- Stone - not likely to get $4M again in this contract, I think this ends up being a prove it contract
- Need 2 goalies for next year

Renewals after 2017-2018 season include:
- Backlund - easily argue he has been underpaid the last 2 years
- Bennett - Bridge deal looks likely as of today, but if he takes a big step forward next year, look out.

Also need to sock away some dollars for Tkachuk when he's up. At least by then, if Brouwer is still around, he has 1 year left on his deal and is more tradeable.

I just think after heavy investments in Frolik and Brouwer, and potentially big deals coming up in net, as well as with Backs/Bennett etc, there may not be as much to go around as we think.

Pretty sure Bennetts deal is up this year because of his play in the playoffs against the Canucks.
Alzner going to have a few team fighting for his services. Unless he wants to play in Calgary again and signs for less I don't see this happening. It's time for some of the kids to get a chance, but we still need someone to play with Brodie. Kulak?

Ollas Mattsson looked kinda crappy in last year's WJHC-U20. He's only 20, but I wouldn't hold my breath on him working his way past Kylington and Morrison on the depth chart.

no he doesn't

He is currently in the third year of his three year entry level deal. His time in the playoffs 2 years ago counts as he played beyond the 9 game limit.

Cap friendly is most reliable. He needs a contact this offseason.

If he needs contacts he should not be waiting till the offseason. Modern optometrist's can do an eye test in under an hour.

Send the kid to Lense Crafters for god's sakes.

Very impressed with Calgary especially down the middle. Dont know if deep enough on wings and D to go far in playoffs. Caps played into their hands with stupid drop passes leading to numerous odd man rushes, Holtby saved their bacon

Maybe. But what do you think Alzner is looking for in Money? 5 mil?

If you consider that Bennett will probably get more of a bridge contract (for the sake of it say 2.5 for 2 years.) I still believe that Bennett will work out, but he hasn't earned more yet. Consider that somebody will be coming off the books in the expansion draft. Stajan and Bomua come off the books after next season (5.325 mil) before they have to re-sign Backlund.

As for the whole left / right d-man thing. Every coach would love that, but if you can get skilled players that don't always match the hand they shoot then every coach will take that. Brodie's best years have been playing on his off side with Giordano. Brodie has even said he actually prefers to play the off side. So match Alzner with Brodie as the 3-4. Gives Alzner higher minutes, give the flames a much needed high end Shut down type d-man. And it allows Brodie to take more chances and have confidence that his partner can handle things (hence his troubles this year not being able to play his style of came and cover for Wideman too).

Alzner is having his worst year but somebody will overpay him. He's making decision between him and Oshie an easy one for the Caps

Depends on term for Elliott. Even the Isles managed to get DiPietro to a 4ish mill cap hit.

For a 17 year term.

Yeah, not a chance in hell Alzner takes 5. There's this thing called precedent..

Stone at 3.5 seems high. But who knows? Given that he's a UFA.

Yet you take no issue with re-signing Wideman.
- fry

Hell no, he's going to be the president of the officials union & then we are going to get games reefed in our favour
You should have noted my location note.

Would rather we blow our brains out on a proven top 4 Dman than depth forward. 1st choice Alzner, 2nd choice Stone. Maybe Vegas will decide they need veteran leadership of Brouwer (praying).

If Engelland is not resigned, who would ideally be in that 3rd pairing next year? FatRass and?

Barring any big signings (Alzner). I'd like to see us sign Stone as Engellund's replacement (Do not give him top 4 money and do not count on him being a legit top 4 dman!).

Bartowski better be our 7th dman, he is not good enough to be in the top 6 of any playoff team going for a cup.

I'd then like us to inject some youth/speed into our d core.

Gio Hamilton
Kulak/Anderson Brodie
Spoon/Kylington Stone
Bart

Let Kulak, Rass, Spoon and Kylington battle for the two openings we will have next year (there could be 3 if Stone doesn't resign).

On another note; nice to see that Johnny and Money are finally back!!

I thought that was one of Monahan's best games in over 2 years! He was dangerous every time he touched the ice.

Call Janko up to fill the depth void if there is an injury. Not worried abt it. Dude is better than McDavid anyways.
