Anyone else find it ironic that Toronto is in year two of a rebuild and the isles are chasing them for the final wild card spot?
Under Snow this team is like one of those restaurant impossible shows. A few tweaks here and there and voila you have a successful joint. This team has all the assets to put together a cup team. Its just not happening under Garth. - kindlyrick
Not particularly. As far as I'm concerned the Leafs are just pulling a 13/14 Avs or 14/15 Flames. Loads of luck and career years from a majority of their roster. In time it shall pass.

Not at all, with the Management team they have put together up there and Babcock behind the bench. I said it wouldn't take to much time to turn things around in Toronto and it hasn't, good for them.
Edit: On the islanders side no surprised there either because of management and coaching as well, however how Shatty it is and how it's run much like a circus vs a NHL hockey club.

I said the same......just jealous that the isles are in year 10 and the hope here is that teams lose so the isles can back door it in. How sad. With that said, i hope they pounce the skirts tonight!!!

You are drunk. Arguably the best front office in the league. Matthews is franchise center. Talent all around them.

The leafs are further along in that rebuild in year two than the isles are in year 10 lol Not really, but they are ahead in the standings. Mitch Marner is LEGITTTTTT

1) Not yet I'm not.
2) Arguably yes.
3) Safe to say, yes.
4) Also yes.
And yet I'm still not convinced. Much of what you said was also said about the 13/14 Avs (substitute Matthews mania for MacKinnon mania). Until these Leafs pull off more than 1 solid season I see no reason to drink the Koolaid.

Buddy that Leaf team is going to be the real deal in 2-3 years. Lou/Shanny/Babcock is the best front office tandom in the NHL
Rebuilds take 5 years bro........i mean that is what Garth said. - kindlyrick
Also not true.
All a succesful rebuild requires is Griffen Reinhart. Oil are set make to make their first playoff appearance in a decade only 2 years after having acquired him. His old team is now struggling to make the playoffs after 2 consecutive appearances.
Does that mean the Isles rebuilt twice? How many does it take? - JimmyP
Then i guess neither rebuild was successful. Garth is the one who claimed it takes 5 years, not me. Wish someone could find a clip of him saying that...
“The funny thing though is I don’t think John Tavares sits in the wheelhouse of what the Maple Leafs are interested in,” speculated McKenzie. “And unlike a year ago, when the Leafs were very hot after Steven Stamkos – and I could be way off on this – but I think they’ve already got their John Tavares and his name is Auston Matthews. And they’re going to need to devote and allocate their cap considerations for many years down the road to Auston Matthews and William Nylander and Mitch Marner.

So did we
Jaro starting tonight for Bridgeport with the team traveling for Pittsburgh tonight. Glad Pulock and Halak are helping the Sound Tigers with their playoff push
I honestly think it's only common sense. The kid is 20, scored at a .74ppg pace this year (Tavares is at .86ppg), on an ELC that runs through the end of next season, and will be under team control for probably the next 6-8 years. They're going to trade him (plus more) for a guy 6 years older who is set to make over $9M/per on a long term deal? I wouldn't if I were them. They're not even close to contending yet, so pissing away young, cheap, talented assets would be a mistake.
I could see them going after him if he made it to UFA, but not in a trade.

Yeah I saw Compton's tweet. I mean...planes fly from CT to PA too. He can always fly in the morning, the game isn't for another 48hrs. People lose their shit on twitter over this without even considering that he is can travel separately.

I'm more annoyed that Pulock isn't up than Halak. Our PP is awful. With just a decent PP, we'd be a lot better. Not that that would resolve the defensive issues, but it would certainly help their game as a whole.

They'll trade for JT and like it.
The Leafs would be one of the teams that do not really need JT at this point. They have plenty of top forwards and need D,
