Ask the NBA what international viewership(especially in China) has done for their revenue. The moment China had a player to identify with in Yao Ming NBA revenues flew through the roof and none of that would have occurred with the NBA's involvement with Olympic Basketball. - jaydogg1974
Wasn't Kobe much more popular in China than Yao (or even Lin) ever was? |

The NBA has little to no competition. The NHL has loads of international competition. Not a good comparison. The Olympics will help the KHL more in China regardless of NHL players going. Since you know they have a team there. |

Why do NHL owners need to pay for that when its IIHFs job to do that? And again there is no proof that it helps the NHL longterm. - Zac_O
An influx of players into the NHL from smaller countries like Slovenia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, etc. doesn't help the NHL? You know guys like Kopitar, Draisaitl, Zucarello, Josi, Srpong, etc. |

Kobe was popular but I don't believe it was anywhere near the level Yao was at. The NBA is just smart though. They have a digital rights deal with a top Chinese internet company that allowed people to watch like 600 NBA games last season in China. |

The owners in theory have the most to lose (profits) as players contracts are guaranteed so it would make sense they would foot the majority of the insurance bill. Also the individual countries' hockey programs do pay the players which is a reason the USWNT is currently holding out for equal pay. The NHL and the owners to a lesser extent are too short sighted to realize the benefit of the Olympics. - Feds91Stammer
Or they lose nothing by not taking the risk in the first place. Gee I wonder what people trying to make money would choose. Lose money or not lose money.
You hard of hearing? Theres no evidence that there is any benefit from Olympics. I'd want evidence before forking over millions too. |

They will go to the NHL anyways cuz the NHL pays the best. Don't need Olympics for that. |

Honestly I thought 5 and a game was enough. Yes he should of let up on the hit but if the puck gets to Guentzel there isn't anything wrong with the hit. |
