How do you think players should defend then? A lot of blocked shots are simply the result of the defender keeping themselves between the puck and the net and not necessarily a plan of blocking any shot they can.

Blocking shots is a skill, albeit on the lower end of things, that undoubtedly helps your goalie and your team from getting scored on. The least amount of pucks going to the front of your net, the better.

I love that I get called Trump - a guy I absolutely hate more than anyone on this earth - in a comments section I kicked off by admitting I was wrong not once, but twice.

Coupled with your insano first comment, I think it's hilarious you have the balls to insult anyone.

Just noting a few similarities in character. Not any more outlandish than your brand of hockey observations. Want some more?

You have a tenuous grasp on the English language, but you insist that you're "really, like, a very smart person" to everyone.

You feel compelled to share your irrelevant views (often at odds with reality) with an anonymous audience on a regular basis.

You continually boast about being the best, and/or smarter than the rest of the room.

When cornered with factual arguments or opposing viewpoints you resort to bombast and flippant dismissal.

You lower the discourse and bring out the worst in everyone.

You destroy the credibility of the institution you're employed by.

Haha. Alright enough ball-busting. Have a good one Jimmy, I won't post anymore, I promise.

im on board with this.
just seems like it makes sense. and it seems i see bodies in front of pucks and closing off lanes as extremely effective at limiting scoring chances and making lfe easier on ones goalie.
but everything im basing it on is fairly anecdotal.

id be interested to see some hard numbers if that was in fact possible.

I'm just basing it off my experience of playing. Realistically, you can't really remove blocked shots from the game without drastically altering the way people defend, specifically on the rush. But there is no way that blocking shots doesn't help prevent goal totals. I'm sure it can be exemplified through numbers, but it's just painstakingly obvious if you play. Especially if you are a defender or a goalie.

I love it. I love Darryl Sutter, and I love the Kings. They've been consistently one of the NHL's best teams for what, six, seven years?

Even the year they missed the Playoffs was a total fluke. As for this year, they're still a much better team than their record would indicate.

- James_Tanner

Yeah Tanner, were winning the corsi battle night in and night out but still can't score for crap. One playoff win in what will now be three years running and only making the playoffs once in those three years. The players don't care and are just going through the motions. Yeah, the system works. Making every back up goalie look like a Vezina trophy winner really proves it.

I think he blocked about 2,000 too many in Montreal.

Win.

Make it out of 2nd round.

Do whatever it takes as a captain....I dont see him getting in front of many shots for instance.

Haha Yeah, thats the only thing he did that whole game....did nothing else. He was just a total non-factor in the win Tuesday night.

He's a proven champion at every single level of hockey he's played.

I really like Ovi and what he brings and (for the most part) how he plays. Feel very fortunate to have been able to watch his career.

Should learn to drop the hate man, its a bad scene.

11 shots...

I wonder if he knows anybody else plays on his team...

- Flamin_Irishmin

It's a crazy amount of shots, but not even close to the record. In 1991, Ray Bourque somehow managed to get 19 shots on net.

19.

Geezus.....

Well, yeah, if you aren't able to do anything but block shots, then all you're doing is prolonging the inevitableness of the puck being in your goalie's kitchen.
