Honestly I don't watch as closely as I should, these last few seasons have killed my concentration on hockey, I'm typically on my computer playing a game while I chromecast the hockey game to my TV. :D

Buffalo fans don't want to hear it, but their defense corp. stinks

Umm...we kinda say that every night, so I don't get this....

Don't feel like going back to old blog. The definition of MVP is most important to their team. It's not even loose. That's pretty cut and dry IMO.

per NHL.com

Hart Memorial Trophy
The Hart Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team. The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association in all NHL cities at the end of the regular season.

Ted Lindsay Award
The Ted Lindsay Award (formerly Lester B. Pearson Award) is presented annually to the "most outstanding player" in the NHL as voted by fellow members of the National Hockey League Players' Association.

Personally I find the Ted Lindsay more prestigious, as it's voted by the players

And again this isn't a fair thing considering just cuz Malkin is on the pens that doesn't make Crosby less valuable. Sid should just go to Colorado or Arizona and get MVP every single year.

Dmen's primary focus is to protect the front of the net, take away passing lanes, etc.

Uh... yeah it does.

2nd part... why? Isn't a Stanley cup more important to you than an MVP? I'm sure it is to Sid, and every other player in the NHL.

What if Geno goes on a 12 point tear in the last 5 games of the season, jumps Sid in point totals, should he win the hart?

What player is more valuable to THEIR team... an elite center on a team with one elite center or an elite center on a team with 2 elite centers? If the Pens lost Sid, they could still make playoffs and even make a deep run possibly (see Tampa last year, sans Stamkos). Edmonton without McDavid, highly doubtful they make the playoffs.

Hahaha thanks man. It came down to the wire. Thank god for Sid's hatty. This week is gonna be rough. Down 15 after the first day. I wasn't expecting Benn and Seguin to poop the bed.

Pens without Sid could make the playoffs but I don't envision a deep run.

Why don't Dumo and Maatta count?

They count, and I counted them. Neither is stands as a case of a pure success -- a flawless player. So, they count. But are two specks in a sand pile of failure.

I think it has more to do with the player than development. Those failures (Morrow, Harrington, possibly Pouliot, etc) have proven they didn't deserve their draft position. You think the Penguins failed these guys? Whey didn't they bloom once they were free of the Penguins system?

Perhaps these players failed to make their mark because the Pens failed them during the crucial moments on their developmental path. Pouliot has regressed since he entered the Pens system. Bylsma, Johnson and crew made a mess out of Despres. Player development and rational asset usage is part of the job description for coaches at every level of the organization. The Pens during the Crosby era have had two few successes, and two came early on: Gologoski and Letang. The Pens even jerked around the Norris Trophy candidate, Kris Letang. In recent years they managed to turn Doumolin and Matta into serviceable journeymen defensemen.

That's just great.....

Speaking of RistLOLainen, watch him stand next to Tatar who scores a goal after being set up by Green last night. See what you guys are missing out on.

Journeymen...? You do realize that having 3 of your 6 defenseman on your roster coming via draft/in-house development.. is pretty solid right? Take a look around the league and find me a team where their whole defensive corp was drafted homegrown.
