I'll give Benning the benefit of the doubt in regards to Virtanen as the pick screams ownership interference as it seems like a PR move to boost season ticket sales and he was just hired. That being said, perhaps it was all Benning. Nobody knows for sure. I won't give Benning a pass on Juolevi. If he doesn't pan out within a couple years Benning should be fired. Juolevi was a gamble and it needs to pay off. I supported the pick as we need a smooth puck moving defensemen but we passed up a safe, physical top 6 forward so it was certainly risky.

The OJ pick was more out of necessity.
If he was targeting PLD that was blown up.
Tkachuk was tough to pass on still.

Ya there is some really good heat map graphs as well out there that show where players/teams are shooting the puck.

I agree that it is based upon luck. Granlund is one of our feel good stories and Eriksson the biggest disappointment. Sometimes its good to remember how powerful a coin flip can be.

Obviously Eriksson has a much larger sample size for us to see his shooting % but even with Granlunds smaller sample, we shouldn't be expecting him to be shooting 15.5%

- belcherbd

On small sample sizes like Granlund, I think the league average is a decent place to start. I think its safe to assume he will be an 11-13% shooter.

Loui I have confidence will bounce back next year and be a solid 20 goal scorer

You have your opinion and I have mine. who franking cares champ

also, do you struggle with English or reading comprehension or both? I said give him the "benefit of the doubt." I didn't absolve Benning of blame or hint it was all on ownership.

I'm sure you can use google if you really want to find out, plus, they've got a core of young guys getting better. Rielly is 23 and improving, Gardiner has vastly improved his decision making, Zaitsev is only 24.

They have the ability to sign a college free agent like the Nucks did with Stecher or sign a UFA, they can certainly get better in the next couple of years just like we did.

In the past two years they've drafted seven defensemen by the way.

I've looked at many teams prospect depth.
Leafs had bushels of picks to throw at D.
None r top 2 projections & only Carrick registers as anything decent.
Many teams have good D prospects where as the Leafs r thin at best.

Keller will prove to have been a better pick than all 3 of those guys.

Nielsen and Dermott will be much better than Carrick I would say

I'm trying to figure out who drafted Boeser and Demko. I guess we'll never know for sure, it's impossible.
- golfingsince

Demko was drafted by Linden's sunglass distributor.

I was high on many D in the last draft class.
Too bad we didn't have another 1st last year.
The combos would've been interesting.

No...my point being I thought that rebuilding on the fly could possibly work. Our "best" players became awful overnight so it's become clear we need to burn this thing to the ground

I didn't think much of him until he said the Canucks shouldn't pick Virtanen at 6th overall, turns out he was right #respect

Agreed. 20 mil in cap space this summer may come in useful to help on the back end as well

My nature is to wheel & deal. If no clear cut stud was available to us i'd trade down to get more assets or picks. I had my eye on Keller. His size didn't bother me. Given the right wingers & he will be a gem.

They came across as either amateur or vindictive or both. Can't remember specificly but do know that they weren't Canuck related. There are not too many that I read anymore.
