He trade for Sbisa and Pedan, drafted JV, Tree, Stewart all within the first 5 months on the job.

I'd say that's adding size originally.

- golfingsince

I dont think he is all in one basket or the other, I think he appreciates having some size in certain roles (defense seems to be the trend). In the same time frame he added: Vey, Vrbata, Bonino, Doresett to immediately help with the NHL roster. Sbisa was the only thing with moderate size that was added to help the Canucks right away, thats the only real dispute I have with your "originally" statement, immediate impact vs project prospects

Wasn't JV in the NHL in his first season?

But for the most part I agree with Don

The "meat and potatoes" thing is false. If anything he seems to go after guys who can "rip the puck" and are generally safe bets to be NHLers of some kind.

Adding those other guys via trade or draft at or around the same time suggests a guy like JV wasn't going astray from his line of thinking at the time.

Again, because Tony Gallagher had a hunch doesn't sell me on the fact it was the owner's pick.

It was the NHL or back to the Hitmen.
Idk if Jr's would've helped him.
His shoulder surgery hurt his development for a year.
Cassels was also set back a year.
Cut both a lil slack but both gotta get in high gear soon.

You have no idea if it was Aquilinis pick just like you have no idea if it was JB's. it is speculation from all of us

(frank) off.

Gallagher had a hunch is the evidence it was Aquilini's pick?

The hot dog vendor had a hunch Tryamkin was Aquilini's ex-wife's pick, should we roll with that too?

Usually it is customary for GM's and their scouting staffs to take responsibility good or bad for draft picks.

I can't imagine if Virtanen was tearing it up we would be hearing that it was a Aquaman or Gillis pick.
