I know you think I wanted Lucic at 6 for 6 but you would be wrong.

I wanted him a year earlier at 4x5. I would have walked away if I was the Oilers

The point is, that money wouldn't have been spent on huge upgrades.

The twins contracts aren't biting us in the ass.
- golfingsince

They are if you consider the clauses within. Losing 2 of your "best" players to retirement is insanity in 2017 pro sports. Also, paying guys for what they were instead of what they are will always be foolish. Gotta cut ties at that tipping point... preferably via trade, but if not, why not let them go and allow some other team to have the burden of paying them a disproportionate chunk of cap to be mediocre.

Oh come on...the twins contracts suck. And so does Ericksons. They are both garbage
- CanuckDon

There is a difference between a poopty contract and one biting you in the ass. We'd suck regardless.

At least you got to think they were good for half a year.

It would be great if they didn't have NTC's, especially in the 2nd half and or expiring year of their deals.

Maybe they'll allow themselves to be dealt.

I don't believe for a second if we were to move them and retain salary they'd make another team mediocre as they'd be complimentary pieces instead of primary pieces like they've been here for the past decade.

I know for a fact that you thought signing 30 year old 31 goal scorer Eriksson was a bad signing . He will be 36 when the deal is up . So how come signing two 32 year olds for more money doesn't get the same ill feelings.

Actually two years too long and now people (not including me ) are female doging

For the record I would have been happy if Gillis didn't sign them back then too , but you knew that too.

The thing I like about the LE signing is that 2 years NMC - 2 NTC - 2 Limited NTC. Most of the actual money is paid in first 4 years. Which means he will be a 34 y/o with a Limited NTC and can't say no to a trade. Though his cap his is 6mil - his actual money is low. This makes him valuable to teams like Yotes, Panthers, Sens, etc who all have an internal budget for actual dollars, so they tend of have lots of cap space. He will likely still be top 9 production at this point.

Man just look at least year's big UFA signings:

David Backes, 32 Years Old, 5 Years/30M = 34 Points in 63 Games

Kyle Okposo, 28 Years Old, 7 Years/42M = 43 Points in 63 Games

Troy Brouwer, 31 Years Old, 4 Years/18M = 21 Points in 64 Games

Frans Nielsen, 32 Years Old, 6 Years/31.5M = 31 Points in 67 Games

Milan Lucic, 28 Years Old, 7 years/42M = 41 Points in 71 Games

Andrew Ladd 31 Years Old, 7 Years/38.5M = 27 Points in 67 Games

Mikkel Boedker, 27 Years Old, 4 Years/16M = 22 Points in 70 Games

Loui Eriksson 31 Years Old, 6 Years/36M = 24 Points in 65 Games

Seems so much wiser to just avoid the guys wanting long term and big bucks, stick to shorter term deals and try to find value.

Moral of the story? Avoid these guys, they are all brutal signings. That being said, I don't hate the Erickson signing as we have a lot of cap space and he replaces the Sedins in a year as a veteran top 6. He was also brutally unlucky this year
