In his limited time playing pro hockey, the singularly most important attribute Sheary has is that there is no stage too big for him mentally.
He played 2 regular season games with Wilkes-Barre after signing an ATO in 2014 and then had 11 points in 15 playoff games.... the only other player in recent history to come in after a college season and put up those kind of numbers was................. Jake Guentzel last year on an ATO... 14 pts in 9 playoff games.
Neither of those kids are at awe at the NHL level and even more importantly they are young enough that if Sid tells them to shoot more, they will listen. It's a perfect scenario for the next 3 years. |

I see Sprong and his QMJHL (i think that's right) team made the playoffs. If they lose early, does he count as a call up if he joins the pens in the regular season? - Zac_O
I think he can only spend the post season with Wilkes-Barre.... not 100% sure about that based on how his contract was handled by the Pens early last year.
Im not sure if he can come to WBS on an ATO for the rest of the season to preserve a year of his entry level deal or if his 2nd contract year runs out because he played 18 games last year. |

You can definitely tell they're listening to Sid. They're even starting to pick up a few of his tricks when it comes to board play. Neither is a big physically but you have to love there tenacity on the forecheck. They also don't automatically defer to Sid once they cross the blue line like some others who've played with him. I really hope they can continue their strong play and help Sid win the Art Ross and Rocket. Gonna be tough to keep pace with McDavid next year. |

Who cares if he's just a great complimentary player or if he would be worse playing somewhere else.... he is here now, on this team, playing excellent.... thats his value to the Penguins. - YouMeAndDupuis9
I...agree???
Someone asked about his next contract, and I was trying to imply that he may take a small discount to stay with the system/linemates that use his talents best.
Sorry to ruin your day. |

Once an ELC starts, it doesn't stop. After next year, he will be an RFA. |

I would tell Sheary that, this is what we will offer...if you think you can do better elsewhere, go look. Place the QFA on him, and tell him to come back when he finds something. I think he knows his stats are elevated because of playing with Crosby. I wonder what his stats are with and without Crosby looks like. |

So many tough minded Gm's on this post. Impressive. I will tell you what, I am personally just delighted he is on out team. He is a smart player with decent skills and killer wheels. Love me some Sheary. He has a lot of heart for his size too, IMO. |

Its a message board. Much more focus on team building than just being a fan.
And the sheary contract situation is interesting to speculate on. As I think he's very tough to value. Really exploded this year; top 15 pts per 60 5 on 5 is very impressive even if crosby is bumping him up; but limited evidence before this year that he had legit top line potential. I obviously wouldn't rank him in the top 20 forwards in the NHL since I think sid's inflating point potential, but he's making a strong case he's a real good top 9 player in this league.
Regardless from what I can tell we have 3 years of rfa control after this year. With RFA control going to 4 seems too much, but he's shown enough ability to produce without sid that I could do a 5 year 17 million or so contract. I think that could work for both sides. If he regresses then we are overpaying 500-1 a year; but if he continues to perform with Sid then we have a relatively cheap guy to pair him with. 5 years buys out a couple UFA years. And sheary hasn't made anything so locking in 17 guaranteed would be tough to pass up.
Does he have arbitration rights? That would be a very interesting case. |

And like that mcdavid is gone again. Can that kid just have a couple of 0 point games ffs... sid will probably lay an egg like he always does when he starts to get hot. |

He is playing with Draisaitl as his wing... it's like jari kuri and 99 all over again. 2 stars on 1 line... ofc he is gonna produce (mcdavid). Talbot is the mvp of the Oilers. |

Wasn't long ago a similar discussion was had, & I was told Draisaitl couldn't be compared with the talent Sid plays with. So according to that individual, Draisaitl isn't doing much for McD!
Oil are an up & down team, it's possible they do stop producing for a short time.
I still wonder about Lucic on the Oil. Does anyone think McD would have been targeted more if Lucic wasn't on the same team? Is Lucic a 'deterrent'?? |
