Even with Horny in the lineup you'd rather see Guentzal there?
- j.boyd919

Yes. For the aforementioned reasons. I also don't think Horny is 100% right now.

I wouldn't be opposed to trying it. Pens are still in good position for the playoffs. Now is the time to try some new stuff and the PP lives and dies with Geno/Sid anyways. Guentzal going in isn't gonna drastically change anything.

I agree it's not gonna make a huge difference but it's worth a shot. Like you said, now's the time. JG also gives us a better shot at controlled entries which they are horrible at right now.

I haaaate with Horny gets the puck on PP entries. He rings it around the boards 9 out of 10 times.

I see Sprong and his QMJHL (i think that's right) team made the playoffs. If they lose early, does he count as a call up if he joins the pens in the regular season?

I can almost hear the other guys groan when he does it. Especially since they're usually holding up for the trailing player. Hard to win that race

theyre not the only ones groaning.

love hornqvist, but if he touches the puck farther than 20 feet from the cage, the play is over.

You guys think they'll hold Geno out the rest of the season if they keep winning? Just for some rest?

I disagree with Kunitz. He shouldn't see the light of day on PP1 unit. His assist to Malkin on the pp vs Calgary aside was nice, but I don't see him adding any value, especially since Hornqvist is back.
- DeflatedPucks

I prefer the idea of sheary and guentzal together on a unit...so with that said pp2 is best for them I would keep Hornie or Kunitz if Hornie is out on the pp1...I mean there is already a Lil too many cooks in the kitchen on pp1 so no need for more. Keep pp2 a threat for when the big boys tire out. Same philosophy of having sid Geno and Phil on their own lines 5 on 5.

The suggestion that sheary is a star at this point is false. While you cannot underestimate that he seems to play well with sid, let's not confuse this with "star player". I look at it this way. Sid is a lot like the Peyton Manning's and Tom Brady's of the football world. He does not need talent on the ice with him as much as he needs players that will do and be everything he requires. Sid thinks the whole ice sheet all the time. He maps it out and wants to place the pieces where he needs them. This is why he excels with players that fill a role and basically buy into what he wants. This isn't a slight on sid it's just he thinks the game above arguably anyone currently playing. Other star players struggle to mesh on a line with sid because they bring their own style and preconceived notions of how to play. Geno is a perfect example. Geno is the opposite of system...almost a "make it up as you go" kinda star. Geno is an incredible talent, one of the best in the world, but doesn't mesh at all with sid on a regular shift. Players like Duper, Kunitz and now rookies/youngsters like Guentzal and Sheary are more malleable for sid. The point is that let's not get carried away with sheary as a star, because it's no different than Kunitz as a star back when he had godly numbers. Let's enjoy it for what it is currently. We can revisit this when or if sheary can maintain this level of play over a huge sample size with and without sid.

I have said this on a number of occasions, Sheary plays the exact syle that Crosby wants, which is why they mesh well together. But I think it should be noted that I do believe that Sheary does elevate Crosby's game as well, which is something I do not think Kunitz and Dupuis did when they played together.

Anyone ever heard of an undrafted player named Martin St Louis?

I think Sheary is kind of like Schultz. His linemates and the system he plays in highlight his skills. He's no doubt a talented player, but playing in the system he's in plus playing with Crosby makes him pop. That makes him grow from a good player into a great player.

He's clearly a top-6 player right now, but maybe not a top-line player on a different team or with less complimentary linemates. Idon't think he'll price himself out of Pittsburgh. Great find for them.

Who cares if he's just a great complimentary player or if he would be worse playing somewhere else.... he is here now, on this team, playing excellent.... thats his value to the Penguins.
