A guy with 60 points in his first 2 NHL seasons = good. Same is a "dud" at the #2 pick though?? (not a dud player, but being knocked as a weak #2 overall).

Sam's on pace for almost 90 points in his first 2 seasons.

Barkov played at 18. Reinhart as sent back to Juniors

Barkov at 19 was a .50 PPG player
Barkov last year at 20 was a .89 PPG player, and was talked about as a emerging Selke candidate.

hmmm went from .50 PPG to .89PPG.

Another imaginary big jump that guys never take.

Draisaitl might have landed in the one spot that he could thrive in/over achieve. Perhaps on another team he'd be Sam Bennett right now. Perhaps in Buffalo he'd be at 1/2 the production he is now.

That's not even true.. let me guess you're going to say because of Connor McDavid?

Among other things perhaps.

This isn't a video game where you can just take a guy .. place him on any team and expect the exact same results.

This is true, but also an insane cop out.

I honestly don't think anyone is criticizing Murray for picking Reinhart, I'm certainly not, because I thought all 3 were neck and neck and would have been fine with any of them (wanted Dras mostly)

I think what people are saying is that it would be nice to see 23 take that jump like a few have.

That's all.

I hope we trade Sam Reinhart just so I can listen to everyone B*** and moan that we didnt get enough back for a "Former #2 overall pick.

This fan base does not deserve Jack Eichel.

I thought it wasn't all about PPG..

Just because Sam isn't taking large jumps every year doesn't mean he isn't improving. He wasn't invisible last night, and most of the time looked like our second best forward. I'm not saying that he can't improve and become better, because obviously he can and must for this team to improve. But to act like he's a bust, or declining, or even plateauing at 50 pts per isn't exactly correct either.

In their first 2 seasons +9 games (Reinhart's pre-Juniors games where he got 1 epic point)

Reinhart: 39G, 47A, 159GP out of 164 possible
Barkov: 24G, 36A, 125GP out of 164 possible

Why their age suddenly matters is beyond me, but use whatever stat-skewing you need to feel better

He was really good last night IMO. And it's not all about points.

I don't think he sucks. I think he's a pretty decent player. I just agree with others that I had hoped for a big year from him.

Understood. Keep in mind that not every player follows the same trajectory as every player before them. As of right now, he has one more point then last year in 7 less games. Obviously not phenomenal, but improvement. His D-zone has also improved, maybe not as dramatically as him being a Selke nominee in his second season, but the defensive side of the game does take players a little longer to learn. Stay the course, and methinks in a few years we'll all be pleasantly surprised with how he plays.

Because one was in the NHL as an 18 year old, and the other wasn't full time until he was 20?

I mean are you serious?

Because Barkov was too good to go back overseas and play in Finland, and was kept in the NHL at 18, and Sam gets sent back to Juniors, that's held against Barkov, and I'm the stat skewer

I wasn't even referring to Sam but since you brought him up ........... he's going to have a long and very productive career in Buffalo. He's only going to get better moving forward.

Because Sam wasn't eligible to play at the age of 18, suddenly age matters.

Such a crazy concept...comparing 2 people to how they played amongst the men at the top level. Whatever was I thinking.

No, because one player played at the NHL level against men the year they were drafted, and the other went back to juniors to develop.

I didn't compare Barkov to Reinhart, you tried to.

http://www.foxsports.com/...thews-aaron-ekblad-030617

Barkov is #5 on this list. Ahead of Eichel. Risto is 24th. Draisaitl is listed, along with Pastrnak, Ehlers....

It isn't just a few bitter Sabre fans that haven't really noticed Super Sam

One was playing on a team that was a complete mess and was losing on purpose and was sent back to Juniors for a few reasons not just that he couldn't hack it.

Not burning a year on his ELC
Not playing for a team that was losing on purpose
Send him back to juniors to get his body weight up

The other was playing on a team that just missed out on the playoffs and was starting to turn it around.

Age only seems to matter to those using it make their point...

This Sam debate is insane
