I remember when Eric Lindross was the best player in the NHL. And then he played 200 more games after the concussions.
- Der Kaiser

200 more games isn't really all that many. There's 82 in a season. That's only like 2.5 more years. Ekblad only 21 years old. He'd be retired by the time he's 24 in that case.

No guarantees about any of that in the first place, so why torture yourself?

I'd rather try and see some sort of growth out of the young guys over this final stretch than "Hope" we get a better pick and that that pick works out or becomes a major bargaining chip for a trade.

- HonkFortheGoose

Didn't we do that last year and we missed out on TK ? It is very buffalo like to play your hardest the final games of the Season just so you can get on that Golf Course

They actually played really well down the stretch overall last year, not just the last handful of games.

Besides, with the lottery, it's possible to get one of those higher picks or even fall back further than we finish anyway.

Like I said, no guarantees either way. I'll continue to watch games and hope they win. If they don't, I won't be mad, because it is what it is.

I still say if we get in the top five or in the top 4 I think luck is going to come our way
I just get this strange feeling that this is going to be the year that we win the lottery

Or it could be the wine at church

I agree. I was trying to make a similar point.

In fact, in today's league, I don't think they would let a guy play as long with a concussion history as they did in Lindross' era. Lindross and a bunch of other guys are suing the league for allowing them to play.

So - I wouldn't do the trade either.

penguins lose crosby
malkin
letang
their goalie

etc for long stretches and they don't miss a beat

we lose a player or 2, and go straight to becoming another lottery team again

Wasn't sure if that's what you were trying to say. It could have gone either way. So thanks for clarifying.

I think it's pretty much over with another year of the "Sammy has an injury week 2 " to Sammy needs another surgery lol

I don't know how you don't address the wide receiver position with a vet wide receiver
Nothing like a hot head rookie coming in and no one there to calm him down

And you're most likely going to lose future players because we have to trade for a defenseman now

Not a damn thing is going to happen if they keep winning these pointless games. I know players don't tank, but last night was a 4pt game and it will really suck if we play ourselves out of a top 10 pick by beating dominate teams in the last 9 games of the season.

I heard it was down to the 2 sam's and it didn't take much time to figure out who they wanted with pick 2

and there was no discussion on trading up to pick 1 for ekblad

- homiedclown

That is correct. In fact Draisaitl was pegged at the #5 pick at best at the time.

You could say the same thing about barkov he was never considered to be taken at 2 whatsoever
That's what you call good scouting

Perhaps has nothing to do with depth. I believe you could take the Sabres bottom 6 forwards and 1/2 of their D-men ......... put them on Pittsburg and the Penguins might still be where they're at.

Simply put .. their best players carry the team night in and night out.

Depth is over-rated in this league. Bad teams (Sabres) have to rely on depth players to win games and good teams don't.

Draisaitl might have landed in the one spot that he could thrive in/over achieve. Perhaps on another team he'd be Sam Bennett right now. Perhaps in Buffalo he'd be at 1/2 the production he is now.

A guy with 60 points in his first 2 NHL seasons = good. Same is a "dud" at the #2 pick though?? (not a dud player, but being knocked as a weak #2 overall).

Sam's on pace for almost 90 points in his first 2 seasons.

I wouldn't worry about us going on some tear to end the season but it is concerning how they can play when nothing is riding on it. I'm going to chalk it up to the overall age of the star players and not really knowing how to "win" yet in this league.
