Comment #1 has Mr. Snider turning in his grave.

Imagine if that was his attitude after we were the St L blues' female dog in the late 60's.

I wonder who we would be rooting for because it wouldn't be the Flyers.

So you don't think Hextall cares about the future?
- jmatchett383

I think he cares about the present as much as he cares about the future, which makes it hard to rebuild

I agree. However, I'm not in favor of tearing the veteran talent away from your team and throwing a season or two to get a top pick or 2. Hextall feels the same way.

If he cared more about the present that the future, and thought that both Morin and Sanheim would give them a better chance to win now than what they have, he would have them playing. That wasn't the case, which means that either he wants to develop them in the AHL for the future, or he thinks they are not better than what the Flyers currently offer. Which do you think it is?

I disagree. Giving them an idea of what to expect next season will help them with their offseason workouts and leave them better prepared for camp next year.

The pick Homer got from Boston for Meszaros.

He's 5'10", but 196 pounds. Short but stocky.

It's a real shame Bowling Green couldn't get it done in OT. It would have been great to see him play in the NCAA tournament. Would have been four Flyers prospects involved, instead of just three.

So, looking at the standings, if Bridgeort wins out, they're looking at 107 pts, a .686 points percentage. The Phantoms would need, at maximum, 24 points to assure they have a higher pts%.

However, assuming Bpt gets 2/3 of their available points (the pace the Phantoms are on), that would give them a .628 pts % (98 points) meaning the Phantoms would need only 15 points to lock up a spot.

Correct?

I would have loved for Hextall to ditch Del Zotto at the TDL, but really, why would any GM give up an asset for Del Zotto after the way he's played this year when you can just sign him and give up no assets after the season?

I think he's overly cautious and doesn't want to break their current routine just to give them 25 NHL games. It would have taken some roster manipulation to get them the time they needed as well.

This argument began because I think it's stupid to assume AHL playoff experience is more important than NHL experience. Players get better by playing against tougher competition. It's important to push them rather than baby these guys.

Here is my favorite quote from this article:

Nothing prepares players for the top level of hockey like actually playing in the NHL. Everything from the size of the players to the speed of the game is harder to replicate elsewhere.

There is no such thing as "winning culture." There is winning and there is culture. You can have a bad team with a good culture and a good team with a bad culture. Prospects join bad teams routinely and it never really seems to affect their development.

You know this is Sanheim's first year of pro hockey. So this is a step up compared to juniors. They also had things they wanted these guys to work on. Like Sanheim in his own zone and morin on his skating and offensive game. Hagg they wanted more urgency from and consistency.

Here's what I think Hextall feels. He want guys ready to play in the NHL. Not developing guys in the NHL. Look at Provorov. If he was only going to play 10-15 minutes a night I think we would have seen him in the OHL. Konecny has basically been in a top 6 role all season.

You do get better by playing against better competition. And at some point, you do need to throw them in the deep end. Hextall didn't seem to think that this was the time to do it. He could be right, could be wrong.

I don't think AHL playoff games, skill-level wise, are as skilled as NHL regular season games. But I do think the raised stakes atmosphere of the playoffs make for more on-par games as far as competitive level goes.

I think Hextall treated this year sort of like last year: let the players play in the AHL and make a push for a playoff spot in the NHL. Ghost was an unexpected surprise last year, and there's no guarantee that Morin or Sanheim would do likewise.

I do expect to see at least 1 of Morin, Sanheim, or Hagg on the team next year along with Ghost and Provorov. Probably two if Myers starts in the AHL. To me, this speaks of a man who looks the future without completely sacrificing the present.

Personally, I don't want to go back to the early 90s just so that MAYBE we'll be better in 5 years.

Just saying, Provorov wasn't in the OHL.

But I agree, Hextall doesn't want to treat the NHL like a developmental league.

They can't work on these things in the NHL?
