I think you are being a little bit over the top with the doom and gloom. Yes, its really tough to make it in the NHL. Yes, we are 2/2 right now and the odds are against us, but each and every case is on an individual basis.
Lets look at the remaining 4.
Sanheim is a virtual lock to not only make it to the NHL, but to succeed once there. I personally think on the low end we are looking at a player like Meszaros.
The other 3 are a little bit harder to project, but Morin is also a virtual lock sheerly because of his ability to skate, his size, and his strength. They are being super cautious with him, but I think its because they are so high on him still. He has the real ability to be a top 4 shut down d-man. There is a bust possibility with him more so the others, in that he doesnt excel with the puck on his stick, but it isnt a weakness perse either.
Hagg has bottom 4 potential. I think he is going to be a very steady is not spectacular player. I could see him being a good #5.
Meyers is the biggest question mark, but has top end potential. He (like Sanheim) has is on of those highly coveted 5-S players. He needs to show that he is capable of staying healthy (his biggest issue as a younger player) to really reach that full potential. It would be a huge surprise if he didnt make it to the NHL playing in a top 4 role.
I honestly believe we will see this group with the Flyers in 2 years.

I really dont think the odds of them being busts are all that large... especially considering how they have advanced to date. - jak521
I really hope Meyers can make it too. I do agree there is a bit of worry with the 2 concussions within less then 3 months of each other.
I know certain brain specialist here beg to differ that 2 concussions is a non issue.

I think this is all a little silly. It's like Democrats and Republicans. I don't think anyone is saying that the AHL kills development, and I don't think anyone is saying that players need to be coddled, but that's how you guys seem to be taking it, whichever side you don't agree on.
Right now, I don't think there's any surefire way to maximize a player's development. There are players like Provorov who are too good for any league other than the NHL. Those players are few and far between, because most have flaws in their game.
The general thinking is that the AHL is a good league that offers very good pro competition where players can get accilimated to the pro game while working on their deficiencies so that, when they get to the NHL, they are much more polished. This also allows for more "complete" (yet sometimes less skilled) players to play on the NHL squad to let them remain fairly competitive.
The newer style of thinking is to let these players work out the kinks at the highest level, the NHL. However, the working out of these kinks will have severe growing pains and, while it may translate to more skill in the lineup, the team will most likely suffer in the short term as these players work on their flaws.
Neither way is always right. Some players need more time than others to work on their game, and some players thrive with more or less lower-level instruction. Disagreeing with one way or the other does not mean someone is attacking you personally. - jmatchett383

This is hockeybuzz, a hive of scum and villainy where phrases like "Shoot the Puck!" and "Hit Somebuddy!" pass for deep, cogent, and serious thought. There might however have been a funny picture or two, or perhaps an amusing .gif, but that would've been hours ago and quite frankly my short term memory is garbage. |

I need Mark Friedman to succeed. He can be the next great Flyers Jewish player, joining such luminaries as Nicklas Grossmann and Antero Niittymäki. |

Not sure if you're serious but...
Hextall on 10/11/16
"We feel these young players make us a better team,” Hextall said of Provorov and Konecny Tuesday on the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show. “So, our expectations are to be better than last year. And next year to be better than this year, while all along getting a little bit younger. We’ve got some good kids coming, besides Ivan and Travis, and we’re excited about our future but we do expect to make gains from what we got accomplished last year."
I don't think he has to pick between trashing guys and avoiding a simple question |

"Did we underachieve last night [against Carolina]? No. We’re sitting there at 2-2 and we’re outshooting them 2-1 and outplaying them, out-chancing them. Dominating the game essentially. A little bit of a microcosm the way our year has gone so far.
"So last night we scored more goals. Why don't we score more goals? Tough question to answer. We're getting to the net, our net front presence is good. We're getting there for rebounds, we're doing a lot of the things we should do.
"There are some nights when it seems like it is puck luck. You can look at the whole year and say it’s puck luck. We’re focused again now on the stretch run and doing our part. We need a lot of help here but we’re focused on doing our part."
I know Hexy is trying to cover for his guys. But there's some real head scratchers in here. The whole year could be puck luck? The Carolina game a microcosm of the season?......whoa |
