So as I thought, your position is about sentimentality, not business...

But I agree on Edler.

Benning owes it to the Fans to ask them to waive at next years TDL(unless we somehow have a great year). If they say no, so be it. But he has to at least ask. Forcing them out is a bad idea.

Results matter more. Look at how the NE Patriots do business. That's why they're the best franchise in sports.

Would be a miracle move if you could pull it off.

It would require the Sedin's to improve dramatically next season, but be willing to move on, via another poor year in the standings, which should happen with avg goaltending.

It would also require another team being able to add their salary's (minus 1/2 of Daniels). Perhaps doable if a young team wanted 2 vets and could flip picks/prospects and a salary anchor of their own.

That's a lot of if's...

edit: Off the top of my head, 2 teams could potentially fit the bill of being young (needing vet experience) and possibly contending next year...
Winnipeg and Toronto.

Exactly...this isn't NHL 2017 for (frank)sakes

What if the Sedins say no? What do you propose then? This isn't a video game. They have families and they love van. They never want to leave.

Here is my ENTIRELY UNLIKELY fantasy trade next year at TDL....that i just made up.

to set the stage for next season, Vancouver sucks and Winnipeg is doing well, playoff bound.
Sedin's recapture their former glory and are both on pace for 65 pts.
Daniel 22 goals, 35 assists
Henrik 15 goals, 50 assits

Sedin's say the right things all year, but do a background deal ala Burrows at TDL and agree to a move to Winnipeg, who wants some vet presence and scoring depth.

To Winnipeg: H.Sedin, D.Sedin (half salary retained), Troy Stetcher.

To Vancouver: Tyler Myers (salary), 1st, 2nd, Lemieux (prospect).

- dbot

Have you seen them play since late November? They are no longer capable of scoring depth....more like occasional scoring yet horrendous 5 v 5 and perennial minus players. Who wouldn't want to dive all over that for 14 mil cap hit

That's another valid point. They are overrated by the homers in this town. They are a liability most of the time

Henrik hands the C over to Bo at the start of the season to mark the beginning of the Swan Song. They fade off into the sunset retiring as Canucks. Anything else is pure fantasy and utter nonsense.

So, you don't explore the possibilities out of a fear/assumption they might say no? IF they say no to everything proposed, our hands are tied & we're sh!t outta luck... stuck watching them retire with no value added... Worst case scenario set up by poor asset management which was my original (frank)ing point

I'd start with the press box for Daniel & play 1 of the young LW's.
Hank can still be serviceable at C.

It's true....there seems som be some imagined loyalty between players and clubs in the NHL...but in reality its a bunch of Malarkey. For every Joe Sakic or Steve Yzerman theres 10,000 NHL players that want to win championships and maximize their incomes.

* Joe Sakic leveraged himself by signing an RFA offer sheet by the Rangers even....so he doesnt count either.

So if the Sedins say no to a trade now you think they would have said yes two years ago?

Who knows what they're thinking, but based on where the team is now and where they thought they were 2 years ago...yes, i'd say there is a possibility they want to give it a shot and win and leave Vancouver behind...just like Iginla, Borque, Kesler, etc.

Wesley Welker, Deion Branch, Randall Moss, Richard Seymour, Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins Sr, Michael Vrabel, etc... were all key/cornerstone impact players traded by the hoodie.

Do you know much about the Pats?

I think the Sedins deserve better than to be forced out of town. Let them retire Canucks at the end of the year. They would never be traded separately so the only way they could be traded would be at next years TDL if we offer to cover 50 % of the cap hit for one of them. Any GM that traded them a couple years ago...well Aquilini would have fired them. And of course, this is ignoring their full NMC. Edler is the veteran that managment should be aggressively pressing to waive.

I thought it totally made sense to compare a NFL franchise to a NHL franchise.
No one knows asset management more than cricket teams.
