After seeing how this years draft class is shaking out, I would prefer to see Hexy explore trading the pick for a young NHL or close to NHL ready forward prospect with top 6 potential.
Probably just a pipe dream but none of these players I am really enamored with. Especially in the 6-10th pick range where I am guessing they pick this year.
If he keeps the pick that is fine too. But I think if he could find a partner that fits my criteria I would pull the trigger. - MBFlyerfan

Ghost looked and did great at The World Cup back in September though, unlike Captain Press Box! He looks no different to me moving, like Giroux does. Ghost has just had Confidence issues. |

I don't get it. Everyone was gung-ho for the playoff push, and I was criticized by rude posters for wanting to get a top 10 pick instead, thinking of the long term instead of another week or two in April. They were very rude and unfair to me, I have to say. Yet here I am watching the games still. And where are they? Where are they? |

Jay Greenberg (and I, because I wrote the first draft of the related chapter in Flyers at 50) detailed exactly how it went down. Separate yourself from how it turned out and try to set your mind to the circumstances as they existed at the time.
After the disastrous goalie carousel -- Boosh, Bob, Leighton -- in the 2011 playoffs, Ed Snider (perhaps letting public opinion sway him too much) demanded, vehemently, that the Flyers solve their goaltending issue once and for all. Bryzgalov, a year removed from being a Vezina finalist with the Coyotes and with a Cup ring (albeit as a backup) in Anaheim, was available.
In private, Holmgren and Jeff Reese both opined that Bobrovsky would be fine as the starter and would continue to blossom after a promising rookie year in which he faded a bit in the second half. Snider didn't want to bank on counting on that happening right away.
The Flyers acquired Bryz. Bob was an unhappy backup for one year but was unwilling to do it a second year. No one knew that amnesty buyouts would be part of the next CBA (that idea wasn't looking promising at the time).
Bob demanded a trade under threat of going back to Russia. This was also before the NHL and KHL had an agreement to honor each other's contracts.
Holmgren told Bob's agent he'd work out a trade but, in return, please don't go public with the trade demand. They agreed. Bob was traded to Columbus.
So now you know. Oh, and one more thing.... there is zero guarantee that Bob would have won a Vezina here. Also, in the years between his Vezina season and this one, he was oft-injured and rather inconsistent in 2015-16. - bmeltzer
Wow. This is what I suspected all along, expect that Holmgren and Reese expressed thought Bob would be ok with some more seasoning. That makes sense since he was a younger goalie and not used to that kind of heavy workload. The idea that there would not be amnesty buyouts is especially frightening considering how things started to turn sour so quickly.
Bob may not have been a Vezina winner here, but things may have been a lot more stable. |

I was going to ask my doctor for Ambien to help me fall asleep at night, I've since realized it will be cheaper to simply watch replays of Flyers games. |
