Sportsclubstats is giving the Islanders a 25 percent chance at making the playoffs, with Toronto at 63 percent. Hardly an exact science, however, and taking a look at how Toronto must end the season, with games against Washington, Tampa, Pittsburgh and Columbus, it's not going to be any easier for the young, inexperienced Leafs. Whichever team gets in, and Tampa must obviously be mentioned also, will earn it, for sure.

Wow their schedule is as brutal as ours. At least we get Devils 2x and Carolina, that being said we will lose those

You can bet on the top teams resting their star players down the stretch. Whatever it's extremely unlikely this team makes it at this point. They had the opportunity and they blew it with lazy uninspired play. If they do make it it will be due to toronto and tampa implpding not by their hard work. They just dont deserve it at this point nor do they look like they even want it. Losing culture which is something i bring up ad nauseum but here's another example of it. Time to write this season off and hope beyond hope Snow gets fired and they hire some competent people to run this team. Snow is clearly incompetent we've seen enough evidence of that over the last decade.

Well said Cpt we can only hope his ass gets fired and a new regime brings a new winning culture for this team.

I'm not sure I would take that bet at 4 to 1. Don't forget the Isles play the first 4 games of April on the road before finishing the final game at home. Really their only shot is if Toronto stumbles. Tampa may be running out of gas.

I'd like to see them get in but I can't get too excited because the way the team is playing right now I don't see it going more than 5 games against the Caps or the Blue Jackets.

Sounds about right Ses, they need more than 2/3 years to build that new arena so they need that from BC or the refurbished NVMC to get the new arena at Belmont completed

Seems like both sides are thinking logically and accounting for the time it will take to put up a new structure. They know there is no future together, but at least they'll keep it amicable enough in the meantime.

was anyone impressed when Mayfield caught Atkinson during the game and made a great defensively play?

Also Seidenberg was on the ice for both Goals against and actually was fully responsible for one. I think he is a good dman but he looks gassed. give him a rest.

was that the play where the guy had mayfield beat and put on a move and turned right back into mayfield?

I'm not sure about your description, but I saw the one spartiarti mentioned, and I had a similar reaction. I thought Mayfield was supposed to be slow!

no It was play when someone turned over puck (I think it was ho Sang 1st turnover) and Mayfield hauled back and caught him and got him off the puck so he didn't get shot. I was shocked.

I have to say, Mayfield has been better than I expected this season. I still don't see him as an impact defenseman, long term, but he's shown he's capable of being a pretty reliable bottom pairing guy.

its pretty funny a had friend of mine say what was weight thinking putting Ho Sang out in OT as he coughed up the puck. I responded as I very much want him out there. He helped us win the game the other night. A good coach has faith in his young players and im sure weight sat down with Ho Sang after and discussed.

that how you make a better player. Sure we lost in OT but it was Columbus. we still came away with a point

Lets just keep at it. Win against Rangers is next focus game.

Depends on your definition of "impact". If he's a Rich Pilon type, as well as sound defensively, that's enough of an impact for me.

The Isles need to get on a run here and quick. TB and TOR are too close (or ahead) of the Isles for my comfort. Its going to take a serious run to get separation with all the loser points that get handed out. Rangers and Pens are going to be hard games, but I think the team should be a) rested and b) fired up to play those games. They get 3 out of 4 pts in those two games, then go on a bit of a tear and they can get in. Otherwise, I think they're watching the playoffs if they play around .500.

It would also be nice if they stopped losing games to the Hurricanes and Jets of the league. There's no time for losses against teams like that now. If you want to make the playoffs, you MUST win against lottery-bound teams, especially at home.

agree Jethro - they need a streak here. While we do need help to make playoffs I think a good hot streak gets us in. While playing Caps in first round is not ideal this team has shown we can beat them. We beat them last two or 3 times didn't we?

Like you said, Spartiarti, the Islanders now need help to make the playoffs. Tonight would be a good place to start. Bruins vs. Leafs.

Best case.........Bruins win in regulation
Worst case.......Leafs win in OT
