Why replace a former AHL coach with another AHL coach who has never coached in the NHL?
- Marwood

As opposed to Jarvis who's been a career assistant?

Green is in a playoff run why disrupt the Comets.

You get a free 12 game look at Jarvis and make a decision at the end of the season.

Jarvis has been around for years at the NHL level, Green has never as a coach.

Finding the right person/philosophy/strategist/competitor is far more important than whether or not they've had their NHL opportunity yet. Not sure how someone who tried & failed in the NHL is more attractive than someone who's never had the opportunity. Like everything else, it's about management's ability to identify the right candidates regardless of resume.

Luongo, another guy in the middle of a long term deal that got traded. Phaneuf, Filpula, pretty sure St.Louis had term when he left Tampa, Scott Hartnell waived for CBJ, Michalek waived, Bickell, Brian Campbell to go to FLA, etc.

There are plenty of examples of guys who waive with term. There also a bunch more of guys who waive and dont get extensions. Way too many to list

- WhiteLie

Now you are just expanding it to all sorts of situations. Luongo lol wanted to get traded.

But your premise was waive NTC to go win a Cup. Those aren't examples of that. My basic point was that's a factor but no the sole one or reason enough to waive. So by your examples you agree. Life and personal factors, location, contract opportunity etc. Okay. Moving on.

Ruff is 702 Wins 517 Losses I don't think you classify that as fail.

How many years did he coach... 20?

700 wins in 20yrs is terrible. (or at the very least, mediocre)

First. Optics and calming the fanbase.
Second. Like I said, going for an AHL coach with no NHL experience hasn't worked out so well, so getting another AHL coach with no NHL experience is stupid.

I don't care about ties or OTL's... Those are misleading BS stats that prop up bad coaches. He won fewer than 50% of games in regulation over 18 years. That's not worth another look. ZERO championships. No thanks.
