I'm really starting to question the coaching of this team. The handling of the goalies, especially Mason, has been puzzling to say the least.
- BiggE

This was the case well before Hakstol joined. Bobrovsky was seriously mishandled, for example. I'm not sure this is a coaching issue.

Kind of like an audition before a contract gets signed.

I don't like starting NHL goalies back to back but overall I can't put much of the goalie struggles this year on the coach. You don't drop from .920 as a team to .900 based on a few questionable starting decisions.

- Feanor

I think it is difficult to have two starting goaltenders. I dont see the harm in just giving regular starts to someone like Mason, and let Neuvirth fill in during back to backs or if Mason has trouble. Mason has always said he likes being fed games.

We will see how injured he is, but I believe he got hurt because of the back to back. It is tough to do that

Peb and Vandevelde both need to go.

Watching Taylor Hall last night. Someone like that who just drives the puck to the net at all costs. We definitely don't have that guy.

I think Hexy said it was just a cramp.

I would be curious to see how often Hak has gone with the same goalie on a B2B. Considering the Flyers entered the season feeling like they had a 1A and 1B option in goal, it seems like they've gone with the same guy a lot.

Nope. But having two "would be good enough if the team were better" goalies sure isn't the solution.

But you'd think that with a GM who was a fantastic, true #1 goalie, they'd figure out how to resolve it.

That would be nice...I still think it is from going twice in a row.

I guess what I am saying is that I don't necessarily disagree with going with the same guy a lot. It is weird when the schedule gets compressed like a 3 in 4, but I don't think the best strategy is to rotate your starts between 1A and 1B. It makes sense to me to give them runs, but more balance would be nice

Where? Idk, but finding them does require patience.

Speaking specifically of Hall, it seems all that was needed was an average defenseman and a willingness to trade him.

NJ are a worse team this season with Hall and without that average defenseman.

I don't think it happened at all last season except when Neuvirth was injured.

I am not going to comment on the specifics of this game. However, I wanted to mention how much i hate watching games played in New Jersey. Honestly the whole scene seems sad and gray. Generally, the hockey is boring. Last night was actually entertaining if your a Devils fans. Also, the Flyers seemingly never win there.

Happy St. Patty's?

And the worst part is the fact that last matches are almost a duplicate of 2nd season
for Berube. So no improvement in 2 years

Bill called it cramping, but it sure looked like an injury to me. On replay (and believe me, they replayed that goal on the scoreboard at least a dozen times while Mason was being tended to) it looked like Mason flinched a bit even before the puck crossed the line which made it even more difficult for him to reach for it.

I would rather Mason get 75% of the starts, but it would be very rare that I'd start him on both nights of a B2B. There is just way too much evidence to suggest that that's a bad idea.

Well then, cool, the Flyers have an underachieving top-5 draft pick of their own they should start shopping so they can get some dynamic offense going.

There does seem to be some level of potential in all of these guys that get picked high too. Larsson, Schenn, Reinhart...seems like even if they don't become players that the teams that draft them hoped they would be, another team thinks they can fix that and the player is still worth something

I don't know how much of it is an internal decision made between the coaches and goalies. To me, if I were a coach I would be talking to the goalies a lot to see how they feel. I would be confident that Mason could tell me if he wanted the second start or not. If Mason said he feels good and can go again, coming off a shutout...why not? I am not in that conversation though, just speculating. Maybe MJL can fill us in

It takes a while for the top 5 shine to wear off. Still can't believe Reinhart was traded for Barzal. Edmonton's management must have gotten to watch him play dozens of Junior games too.

I feel like once a guy reaches 25, teams finally feel a player is what he is.

The reason behind being embarrassed by a bottom feeder like the Devils is what?
Outscored 14-3 dismantled in all 3 games. Non competitive trash. Hakstol said the team didn't quit. He must have been watching a different game.
