I think Hextall expressed in his press conference (post trade) that he has no problem with protecting Filp for the expansion. Don't we also need to protect him with his NMC?
- arichardson22

Oh crap! I'm on the fence with Filppula being protected. It wouldn't shock me if Bellemare was protected.

Hexy said he's going to protect Filppula. I imagine Filppula wouldn't have agreed to come to Philly without the assurance
- PhillySportsGuy

I would imagine he preferred the NMC stay in place. It didn't sound like Hextall even worried about it and saw him as one of his protections, so I am not sure if it was "necessary". Either way, semantics

I do think Vegas would take Filppula if he was exposed. He is a good player, he just was a hindrance to what Tampa needed to do this offseason.

And being he's only under contract for one more year, and addresses a need on next years projected roster it's fine.

For me, Bellemare seems like a good guy but we've always had better fourth line centers. I think he just got his first assist in 53 games or something jaw dropping. With Neuvirth, we sign him and still have a window to bring back Mason but why would we want both when both guys have been in consistent? In fact we signed in my opinion the worst of the two.

I still expect to sign Mason. I don't see why we wouldn't but I'm expecting this. My issues with the moves made at the deadline as opposed to a week ago, I think we need all the cap space available to do whatever it takes to bring in a stud front line player if possible. Maybe there are no deals out there but if there is a deal to be made, let's not worry about moving money around as we have past training camps.

My next worry is, whether or not Hextall is in on all talks. The TJ Oshie to the Caps trade for example. They traded Troy Brouwer and like a second to get Oshie. Troy Brouwer! Brouwer isn't even with the Blues anymore! You telling Matt Read and a second couldn't do the same? I could be way off base but you get Oshie, you don't sign Weise. Oshie upgrades a lot of things.

Is Hextall in on talks?

- SuperSchennBros

Oshie is probably the best FA to avoid this summer. Dude has the highest shooting percentage in the league with any reasonable amount of shots taken and 30+.

Flyers really need to outscore the Devils tonight if they have any chance of winning.

I am sure he is on more talks then any of us know. But trades have to make sense. Our window to go for a cup isn't now. It's still a little ways away. Just like getting Filppula. He isn't a sexy name but he will fill a need for a year. Some don't like the cap hit but for one year what kind of FA do you think you get for his term and price.

Look at what Backes got and he was older. 5 years 30 million I think. I wouldn't want Oshie.

that is actually one of the things that annoys me though. He is clearly filling a hole while the team develops someone to fill the hole. It seems odd to me to protect the 7 most valuable forwards to your franchise, and include someone that won't be around.

He certainly makes the team better, so I get it. He adds some very noticeable skill to the lineup

They need to do more of the punching than be the ones having the other guys do more of the punching.

So is playing Bellemare with Giroux in the third period with a lead now a thing?
That is some Jack Adams level stuff from Hakstol.

52 straight games without an assist?? If you put a crash test dummy on the ice a puck would deflect off it on to someone's tape for a goal.

Maybe he will be around. Not as a major player, but as a middle 6 guy. He's not a spring chicken, but given his playing style, he probably has 3-4 more good years, depending on what he would be looking for as a UFA

We just beat one of the best teams in the league, and our top/second most hated rival 4-0, and yet you still find a way to female dog and complain about the coaching within the first 2 pages of the thread.

Sadly, I'm not surprised.

It was a trade that really only worked for teams like washington and st. louis, to be honest. Both teams had reached a bit of a plateau and were looking to add something they thought they were missing

Wiese with 2 points, and Bellemare with an assist in the same game is pretty hard to script. I don't get why Read and Cousins were benched in the third period.

Yeah, a lot could depend on what role he wants to be in and whether that is still available here next year. (and how much money/term he wants, like you mentioned)

Little disappointing the Pens couldnt get up a bit more for a game vs their biggest rival...but I understand the reasons they were flat footed. Flyers looked like they just wanted it more too.
