One thing I do believe is that even if this is the player he is going to be moving forward, making the team around him better, will make him better.

I agree. I'd regulate goaltender equipment before anything. I just don't think that increasing scoring makes the game more entertaining.
- jmatchett383

It's almost impossible for the league to get the teams to agree to any meaningful goalie change. Just make the nets wider, but not taller.

Statistically speaking, I think there is a better chance Giroux rebounds from this than this becoming the new normal

It is never fun to watch a guy struggle, but it doesn't really make sense that a guy under 30 would just suddenly not be good at hockey anymore. It happens, but it isn't common. The season after surgery, on a team with low scoring across the board, not fantastic team depth, fancy ratios are down...everything points to he isn't this bad

I have the same hope, but I realize it's just a hope. He is a small player who played a lot of hard minutes. Hopefully he can bounce back.

LBI. Day-to-day. Announced about an hour ago. Saw it on twitter.

Part of being an NHL player is availability. This guy is always banged up

Also he was never overly fast either.

I do like what Weal has brought to Giroux. Maybe he just needs a speedy winger. But not sure Weal is a long term answer yet as the sample size is small.

Pens sign the top college Free agent

It's about time that franchise caught a break...like we did with lyubimov

- Just5

Well, my point is that it is more than hope...evidence suggests this won't be the new normal with Giroux

Loss of Raffle= loss of season

Coincidence? I think not.

Not a bust but vastly overrated.
- JoeRussomanno

there was like, what, a 5 year period where he was the highest point producer but he's overrated. maybe the current version isn't the same player which is a problem but to say he is overrated is silly

Since their playoff changes are below 1% as of this afternoon, I'd love to see them bring up Morin for a cup of coffee, but I read somewhere (don't remember where) that Hextall wants to keep the Phantoms somewhat intact for an imminent playoff run.....something I don't think has happened for the Phantoms in quite some time.

Well, I'm not sure what that evidence is, but it is just one season, and hopefully it's due to a physical issue that will improve and not just a rapid decline.

From previous thread:

I'm hoping for a showing equal to the Stadium Series from the team except the goalie. I want at least to walk out not hearing them say same problem for the Flyers as the previous seasons ...NO GOALIE. That was the most popular phrase I heard leaving Heinz Field.

- dragonoffrost

You mean they weren't pleased with our No goalie who we gave a two year extension to??

team wide scoring issues
low shooting % / save %
evidence from players who had similar injury/surgery
evidence on how players age in the NHL

Think 98 gets them in?? Regardless, they are not playing well enough to get 5 wins let alone 9.

It's hard to say. Evidence would suggest his points would continue to decline like they have. Could he stabilize things and maybe be a consistent 60 pt guy? Maybe once some more talent and depth is added.

Just not sure what it is with him. Is he hurt? Or is he just one of those guys that hits a time in his career and stops. Kind of feel a little Scott Gomez-ish with him. Gomez hit a spot in his career and then just that was it.

Well I did the math quickly, but they would need A LOT of help from teams above them. Plus I did say a chance...to make the playoffs.

P.S. 9 wins would be 88 points.

I want the bottom to fall out. Kids to play damn well but maximize that draft position.

Don't teams do the stick raise to the fans at the end of their seasons now? That may be worth watching.

This team is a joke! Starting with Brayden Schenn and ending with Brayden Schenn.

Well the best (worse) they could do for draft position would be 5th overall. My best guess would be 7-9th, but they could still get top 3 if the ball falls right.

ahah Yes I'm an idiot.. I was thinking 96 got them in last year, but was also thinking they'd have to go like 13 and 1.
