Weal out for tonight. Any chance they give the 1LW to TK tonight? - Coleman

This team blows.
The core of the team is rotten. Unless we have a Crosby and Malkin growing in the prospect pool, things won't get better.
The players who don't earn their contract need to be sent out. |

I was wondering with Manning out would they maybe bring up Morin. I know Schultz is around but thought it might be a chance to get Morin up. |

I think the PA would love it, though. If you can make that cap hit lower/nothing, that's more money for the rest of the roster. - jmatchett383
PA would love it, but the league wouldn't. |

Just like it was a great idea to build around Giroux? Will he even be playing in this league before his contract expires? - Pixote Andolini
Are you saying it was a bad idea to build the team around Giroux? |

Nope.
The problem I see is Giroux just might be declining faster then they thought. I think they figured he would, just not this fast. |

Since their playoff changes are below 1% as of this afternoon, I'd love to see them bring up Morin for a cup of coffee, but I read somewhere (don't remember where) that Hextall wants to keep the Phantoms somewhat intact for an imminent playoff run.....something I don't think has happened for the Phantoms in quite some time. |

I think the Giroux era would be much different had Pronger not gotten injured/they made different choices in trying to replace him
Honestly, the Penguins are the only team I have seen recently that has survived an injury to one of their best players for a significant amount of time without much difference in play |

And I understand that.
But they seem to be pretty deep on the back end I think they could survive. |

This team is a joke! Starting with Brayden Schenn and ending with Brayden Schenn. |

Totally agree.
But now I think they have to look at Giroux this offseason and wonder how much time they have with him. Maybe he can be a secondary piece moving forward. But I struggle having a declining 2nd line center at over 8 mil cap hit.

His cap hit is what it is...until it is an issue (which it won't be for a while) there is no point in worrying about it.
There are trades (of Giroux) I would be happy if they were made, but I dont really see any legitimate probability of them happening |

I would disagree that there is no point in worrying about it. Whether or not Giroux can bounce back is the single biggest issue facing this team in the future. If this is the player he is going to be from here on out, that is a serious issue for this team. |

I personally think that power players are boring. 5 guys skating slowly (if at all) around 4 guys in a loose box, passing around the perimeter is not all that exciting. Exhilarating, but not exciting. - jmatchett383
To me the effect is two fold...yeah there are more penalties and power plays which means it is more likely the team scores a goal...but the other side of it is that hopefully teams hold, interfere, etc. less to "open" the game |

There isn't a lot to be optimistic about when it comes to this team but let's focus. We knew what this season was, which is not to contend but to see progress. Yes there is decline among the core members, Provorov and Konecny have passed any test the team has set for them.
This coming summer, we likely dump someone we didn't want anymore anyway in the expansion draft. The NHL draft holds little impact on any team, which is why I would flip the puck to upgrade the roster for next season.
Most importantly, the season isn't over. Our chances are slim but we're still in the hunt.
Relax. Our best days are ahead of us. |

Good god man, Giroux isn't that bad. He's still leading the league in power play points. He has been disappointing for sure but it's not like he needs to be put out to pasture.

One thing I do believe is that even if this is the player he is going to be moving forward, making the team around him better, will make him better. |

Statistically speaking, I think there is a better chance Giroux rebounds from this than this becoming the new normal
It is never fun to watch a guy struggle, but it doesn't really make sense that a guy under 30 would just suddenly not be good at hockey anymore. It happens, but it isn't common. The season after surgery, on a team with low scoring across the board, not fantastic team depth, fancy ratios are down...everything points to he isn't this bad |
