If you watched the Columbus game, they set the tone of the game and carried play due to their 200 foot puck pressure game, and didn't give the Flyers any room to skate. It wasn't a boring brand of hockey to watch in any way. Today's d first systems are far different than in the 80's or 90's. It is an aggressive attack brand of hockey that pretty much every good team in the league plays. - MJL
Well, that's because Tortorella ch...ah, never mind. lol |

I don't disagree at all. But if they're going to tweak things to increase scoring I prefer changes like that rather than larger nets and/or shape changes to the goal posts. - Scoob

I agree. I'd regulate goaltender equipment before anything. I just don't think that increasing scoring makes the game more entertaining. - jmatchett383
I agree.
And yes, the pants are a start but some of the other goaltender equipment is ridiculously over-sized.

I like that idea.
I also like the idea of 6 year contracts as the max length. - ggunky
I'd actually like the ability for each team to have one home-grown player (must be drafted by you and have never played for another NHL team) whose cap hit either doesn't count or can be taken at a discount. You'd have name the player at the time the contract is signed, and it must stay in effect for the duration that he is a player for your organization. |

Maybe not that extreme - there would be serious injuries. |

When you can take away the bottom 1/3 of the net by going into the butterfly, your pads are too big. You take up 2/3 of the net width simply by standing there, and your catching glove is the size of....well, it's really bigger than it needs to be.Not needed. |

The only concern with that is how it impacts the cap and you making a trade related to that discounted number.
I think the NBA has something like that, the discount for resigning your own player, but it hinders making trades.

We could start with the glove. The fishing net they currently use is, what, 3 times the size of an 80's glove?

I think the PA would love it, though. If you can make that cap hit lower/nothing, that's more money for the rest of the roster. |

Yes. Today's glove can definitely be down-sized without risk of injury. As can the leg pads - width, not height. |

Agreed. They did show some nice crisp passing and some nice passes to where someone was going to be vs standing still.

Who said that? He was better than Crosby for a 2-week period in a joke display of hockey, but I don't think anyone ever said he would be better over the long term.
You are so far in the minority with your sad opinion, regarding one the most entertaining series in last 10-15 years. |

I didn't know opinions could be sad or happy. Burt I am glad to know that you've asked every hockey fan alive so you know if I'm in the minority or not. But if you can actually (frank)ing read, I've admitted time and again that it was ridiculously entertaining. |

I love Simmonds but he is not a talent that you build around. Giving him the "C" is fine if that's what they want to do. Making him the center piece of the franchise is not a good idea. - mickel25
Just like it was a great idea to build around Giroux? Will he even be playing in this league before his contract expires? |
