I'm thinking the one D man to target (if available) is Karl Alzner, steady D guy.
- LeafMan

yeah... a guy like him exactly... and his cost wouldnt be over the top so when the group of kids start to come off their ELCs his signing wont hamper the team

I don't think this defence will be fixed next year as well, might be more of the same.
- LeafMan

I think Rielly and Zaitsev are better than people think right now.. they've been playing like poop no doubt but it'll get better. Carrick was just starting to look like an NHLer when he got hurt. They get him back soon. Polak has stepped his game up and good thjng he did otherwise this group would be lost. They need a big presence and make a few changes. Next year it should look like this.

Rielly New Guy
Gardiner Zaits
Nielsen Carrick
Marchenko.

With only 1 year left on his deal, I don’t think jvr brings back the established young long-term dman we need.
- Tumbleweed

No, they would need to send picks and prospects as well.

He's up there for sure, no doubt about it. But that doesn't mean that he's perfect, and if anything, at times that makes some of his decisions and preferences even more baffling. We're obviously much better off with him than without him, but there's still room for improvement.

I like to see at least one of Dermott, Neilson or Valiev up next season.

Alzner really looks like a fit to me, again if available, probably at a 5 mil per cost.

Yeah, he can make sure that Bozie's gloves are clean so that the dumb (frank) doesn't end up on an IV again...

I'd be onboard with Alzner..

I threw Nielsen in there because his stats look better than Dermotts so far. I think this group just needs to settle in a little more and they'll be fine.

You know who I tend to hate the most in the league for female doging/whining? Giroux. Every close up on that (frank)er he is female doging and whining. Every.Damn.Time.

He got his wish tho.. refs called 2 penalties taken against him that were just as weak.

its similar to kadri a few years back... learning to draw a penalty without looking like a diving douche... give him a couple years

Bad example. I feel like Kadri needs a bullet-wound to have a call go his way these days.

They've only got 9smill and a bunch of FA's to sign. It'll be interesting to see what they do to make the money work. If that's where he lands that is.
- markmark

One thing is if we dip into LTIR, we could unlock a lot of cap space and could offer high money low term deals that other teams won’t be able to match.

He does lol..

I think all these big stars are whiners.. Toews whines, Getzlaf, Thornton, Benn, Staal.. all whine when they play the Leafs.. it's a sense of entitlement they have. Even if Marner did embellish he should have just shut-up like a pro and collect his paycheck he's lucky to have.

I don't think things are as black and white as you make them Dozzer...

Can't just chalk everything up as a part of the learning curve. Every player has a personality and they develop that growing up playing the game everyday. Sometimes their style doesn't fit the NHL mandated code of ethics, i.e. Kadri embellishing. But that doesn't mean if the same deal with Marner. With Mitch he seems to always fall for the old stick in the skates dive that gets called everytime.. half of his penalties are because of this.

Lol.. maybe..

But I don't really believe in that.. ALthough I wouldn't want to be the one rookie with a reputation of not respecting one of the all-time greats.

learning what you can and cannot get away with in the NHL is just as important as learning to play with and without the puck.... these kids will figure this out.... i am not too worried

Oh I don't mind it at all.. just kinda looks bad on him..

He should retire for the good of the game.. there's already so many asterisks with his stats I don't think he could polish it anymore.

Leafs are lucky to have not only skilled rookies, but ones who are very smart and humble enough to adapt.. it really impressed with Soshnikovs approach.

You guys are all funny.

If anyone said at the beginning of the year, the last place Leafs would be challenging for a playoff spot in March, everyone would have thought that person was insane.

Now that it's happening, everyone seems to be on board with selling assets, making the playoffs at all costs, etc.

Patience people. Last year we bottomed out. This year, we made significant strides up the standings. The team is being led by 7 rookies. Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Zaitsev, Hyman, Brown, Soshnikov.

Help is on the way. Hunter will keep drafting, Lou will keep trading, and the team will improve. No need to rush the process. The management team knows the weaknesses of this team and they will fix it the right way, not the JFJ and Burke way
