Doubt it very much. Lou is a cheapskate - big time! even with Leaf's money. Zaitsev was ok most of the year. Has been miserable lately - and was the worst Leaf last night.

He has been one of the better defense this year on the Leafs.

He has had a rough last couple of games. Look at the bigger picture and that is that he has shown he can be a top 4 d man. He is being relied on way too heavily. They all have.

The Leafs NEED a top 3 defensmen and a revamp on the bottom pairing. Polak is okay.

i dont think age has much to do with it (i fully agree with leafman on that)

what i do think does has an effect is the fact that many of these kids havent played this long a season before .... the final stretch of a season is when many young players start to taper off... laine for instance has 4 points in his last 5 games but 2 of them came against colorado. young players falling off is nothing new in the NHL.

i still expected a bottom 10 finish so either way i am happy with what the leafs have accomplished this season.

the 3 centers ahead of turris is misleading as well... if turris had played as many games as bozak he would be tied with him based on PPG.

turris also plays with zack smith and ryan dzingel, while bozak is playing with 2 top 5 picks in JVR and marner... that also needs to be considered.

I think the Leafs coaching has been brutal. Say all you want but since Feb 1, Polak and Hunwick have been the best two D men on the Leafs, Gardiners plus-minus is a mirage, he has been horrible in his own end, giveaway after giveaway, bonehead passes along the boards to the opposition.

Polak is a pylon. A team can get by with one sassquatch on the team, he needs to be able to clear the front of the net and pumel the opposition - Polak has not been very consistent on either of these fronts this year. Hunwick, Marchenko, Maracin and Carrcik need to go play elsewhere.

the only reason gardiner's plus minus looks the way it does is due to the fact that he never gets matched up against the oppositions best and gets a lot of offensive zone starts

Agree 100%.. i don't even know who those guys are that Turris plays with... the comment that he'd be behind either Kadri or Bozak has no merit when considering all the facts...

also, for the other guys, not you Dozzer, calling me a troll... i have absolutely not trolled this board since the well before the summer incident where pages were getting locked down and there was a big hullabaloo about Nux fans and Leafs fans going after each other...

Which is a credit to the coach. Building confidence for a player that has been a giveaway machine. If I recall - scored a pretty nice OT winner and is better than he was in the past. Leafs need a 1-2 shutdown pair and Gardiner is not that guy.
