Plus minus is meaningless though because, uh, sometimes people can get get a plus or a minus undeservedly.

So when you see a humongous difference you can't consider it at all.

You need a real stat, like Corsi for example, which has no team component (just ignore the Corsi rankings) and doesn't rank players in ridiculous order compared to what everyone who has ever watched a game, knows is their value to their team (just ignore the Corsi rankings).

I don't see how they're a long shot. There seems to be four teams in the pack that are hovering around the playoff line. Boston, NYI, Tampa and Toronto. They have as good a shot as the other three.
