In the terms of the CBA only player in the last year of an existing contract are eligible to be resigned to a contract extension. Therefore your question of "Which one of those players was given a raise at the deadline", is not a valid question, since all players mentioned were not eligible to receive a raise at the deadline. - MJL
Actually, nobody said the question had multiple answers. Only one player fit the criteria. Completely valid question. |

Not really. Virtually nothing could be done about those contracts this year. PEB on the other hand..... - mickel25

They have drafted very well. They've also greatly improved their team in other avenues. What position in the conference would the Jackets be in right now without Bobrovsky, Hartnell, and Gagner? - PLindbergh31
Honestly their top 3 defenders are playing very well, they have tremendous forward depth, and Bob is playing extremely well. Add that to some hot rides some of their guys are enjoying and it equals what we see. They've had Hartnell and Bob for years and what did that get them? |

Right. Still does not change the fact they did not need to resign PEB. |

I was at the game last night so I wasn't on here at all, I imagine this place had to be an utter joy after Gagner scored. 7 pages of complaining about PEB yet again
and to all the people at the game yelling shoot every time the Flyers had the puck in the Columbus zone including the time Ghost had 2 Bluejackets in the shooting lane right in front of him

Their coach, who has been much maligned also has them playing a strong brand of team hockey.

They don't need to sign any player if they don't want to. |

I have some words on the Bellemare signing and a hot take regarding cap space. Would anyone care to hear them? - PhillySportsGuy

Great point. The coach can have a very dramatic effect on how well an entire team is able to play. Sometimes good, sometimes bad |

With so many issues it makes sense to add another issue by overpaying a zero.
Some are issues Hextall inherited and is handcuffed and can't do anything about. - PLindbergh31
Could it be that they don't feel they have anyone ready to come in and take his place. If Laughton had a strong year, would they have resigned Bellemare? I'm not Bellemare's biggest fan but I don't see this as a big issue. I think goaltending is the biggest issue, Giroux may becoming a huge issue, I can only hope he wasn't fully recovered from the injury. I am disappointed with Schenn this year. It goes on and on. |

I agree, but he's been labeled a bad coach by many fans of different teams. When did he become a good coach again?

Hence my reasoning for not liking the signing. They wanted a player that is not very good. |

Expert analysis there. That point may just have occurred simultaneously as when his players started playing better.

The Flyers disagree that Bellemare isn't a stiff. They are the smartest guys ever!
Bellemare is sure ramming it down the throats of all the critics! |
