Which one of those players was given a raise at the deadline?
- mickel25

In order for that to be a valid question, all players concerned would have to have been eligible for contract negotiation at the deadline.

.69 to .45.......he entered the season the 12th worst scoring forward the last 2 years. He's the 4th this year. Good to see he hasn't dipped as much as others. Consistency is key.
- Mononoke

The facts are the facts. Giroux has dipped from 1.72 to .87. Simmonds has dropped from 1.92 to 1.16. Couturier has dropped from 1.96 to 1.34. Schenn from 1.95 to .91.

There are so many issues with this team, the obsession with Bellemare is mind boggling.

For anyone not on Team Negative and even probably some of that group the PEB deal should be about 7 or 8th on the list of things that are wrong with the Flyers.

Now the argument there is since it is so far down on the list of what has caused this year it should be easy to fix.

The obsession with the FOURTH LINE... is mind boggling.

Can you imaging the female dogfest the Third line will generate... and dear god if they go all in on Jake and G being problems.

Not really. One got an extension while having the worst year of his three year professional career.

I would be equally upset if Giroux and Schenn received an extension this year equaling there current deal.

Simmonds and Couturier have good team friendly deals. Simmonds has been good and Couturier has been ok.

With so many issues it makes sense to add another issue by overpaying a zero.
Some are issues Hextall inherited and is handcuffed and can't do anything about.

Fair enough. I don't disagree with you they are talented. But picking them to make the playoffs, and picking them to be competing for the top spot in the East is different.
- PLindbergh31

Seriously doesn't surprise me. I mean Werenski-Jones, Johnson-Savard & Murray-Nutivaara is a really good defense.

By the way, for all of the tank is the only way people, the BJs are a case of a team that has done a great job drafting

I find it more upsetting that Giroux and Schenn (and others) aren't living up to their deals.

I have some words on the Bellemare signing and a hot take regarding cap space. Would anyone care to hear them?

Here is what I said. "signed one player in free agency to a SIGNIFICANT contract and that's Wiese"

Gordon was a one year low money, zero risk contract.

- MJL

it still reflects on his ability to evaluate talent.

Feel free to ignore the signing.

They have drafted very well. They've also greatly improved their team in other avenues. What position in the conference would the Jackets be in right now without Bobrovsky, Hartnell, and Gagner?

Not really. Virtually nothing could be done about those contracts this year. PEB on the other hand.....

Drafting I'd give him a B+

Free Agency D-

Trades B

Coaching hire C-

Right now his overall grade isn't very good.

- PLindbergh31

I am not sure how you can't consider his drafting anything but an A. I'll just assume you give him a B+ cause there are no "snipers". Fair enough, but he has made a lot of picks and remade this prospect pool. Almost all the picks have been trending upwards too.

All the other grades I dont really care about TBH. I would have liked some different players signed, but the entire future rides on the prospects and the drafts that Hextall is turning in. As stupid as the Gordon signing was and how annoying players like Schultz, Vandevelde, and Bellemare are, they wont mean much to the overall success of Ron Hextall

In the terms of the CBA only player in the last year of an existing contract are eligible to be resigned to a contract extension. Therefore your question of "Which one of those players was given a raise at the deadline", is not a valid question, since all players mentioned were not eligible to receive a raise at the deadline.

A GM can only look at what the player did the previous season. Gordon was brought in for a specific role, to see if he could help the team. Stating that the contract was a no risk contract, and it had little if any negative effect on the Flyers this season, or in the the future, is not ignoring the signing.
