from the last blog:
Actually I picked them to make the playoffs last year but they had a rash of injuries and I picked them again this year. Know why this year? that defense and goaltending. that defense is also why i am more optimistic about the direction of the Flyers. Obviously the players have to pan out but I love that the Flyers are building from the goaltending (further behind) and goalies out. - nastyflyergirl
Fair enough. I don't disagree with you they are talented. But picking them to make the playoffs, and picking them to be competing for the top spot in the East is different. |

Bellemare is making peanuts on a short deal. This is the new "Jody Shelly is the reason we're not winning.". You guys complaining about him are ridiculous. Go worry about Wiess, AMac and Giroux on a long term deal. - hereticpride
You clearly don't understand.
The issue is you spend extra cash on a player you can sign a week before training camp starts. He is a dime a dozen player you do not spend needlessly for.
I want to see the GM spend prudently, not frivolously.
The greater concern is his signings of free agents in general, not a great track record.

Guess what 4th line matters
Chicago would still have 3 cups, in 7 years using VdV, and Belly on 4th line.
Use this instead

The issue is not that you think they could do that. Why would they wait, when they have the player they want, and have him sign somewhere else on July 1st? You may not have a problem with that, but they like the player, so they re-signed him. The Flyers under Hextall have really only signed one player in free agency to a significant contract and that's Wiese. |

Well now two technically. PEB was an FA originally and they extended him. In the end, PEB will make close to $5mil from the Flyers. You are ok with that? |

Here is what I said. "signed one player in free agency to a SIGNIFICANT contract and that's Wiese"
Gordon was a one year low money, zero risk contract.

It doesn't matter, but you're technically incorrect. Bellermare would not have reached UFA status until July 1st. I'm perfectly okay with the Bellemare contract extension.

Aren't all contracts SIGNIFICANT? Kinda like CV's role on the team. |

Per Timmy konecny takes extra ice time after practice. Looks to be the odd man out - Just5
Dear God that is stupid if true.. We can't score a lick and we're going to bench a guy that just scored 2 last night? He did take a bad penalty that cost them, but the season is lost.. get him back out there motivated to redeem himself. So dumb. |

Makes sense to me. I would expect nothing less.
Also, originally PEB was signed as a FA....correct?
Fun fact: PEB is on pace to have half the amount of points he had last year. He had 14 last year. I get he plays 4th line but he will have less than ten points total. $1.45mil well spent. |

Says Ron Hextall, and I'll provide the evidence that Hextall chose to re-sign Bellemare to a 2 year contract. What evidence can you offer that probably most NHL scouts beg to differ? I'll also add that Bill Meltzer posted the other day, that 3 other NHL teams were interested in acquiring Bellemare. - MJL
Rinaldo fetched a third, does that make him a good player because Boston wanted him?

Every player who played last year with maybe one or two exceptions is having a down year in points. Couturier, Simmonds, Schenn, and Giroux have all seen their point/60 point totals drop more than Bellemare's has, comparing last season to this season.

He was adamant at the time that it was a good trade for Boston because Rinaldo was indeed an NHL player and we don't know what the 3rd rounder would end up being. So....... |

.69 to .45.......he entered the season the 12th worst scoring forward the last 2 years. He's the 4th this year. Good to see he hasn't dipped as much as others. Consistency is key. |
