Flyers steps for success:

1.) Get rid of Bellemare and CV.
2.) ???
3.) Championship

Does that cover it? I just want to be sure.

Does bellemare have a NCC on his new contract? (No criticize clause)
- Just5

I'm in no way saying the guy can't be criticized but look at all the issues this team currently has. The Bellemare contract is the least of my concerns personally.

Hex has done a good job drafting but the twinkle of that is starting to fade.

Nobody is against patience (think everyone wants that) but a lot of his other moves along with this blind loyalty to a poopty HC is concerning.

- flyer_nutter

Don't see how the twinkle of a drafting is starting to fade, when he's only had 3 drafts as GM. The blind loyalty and calling the head coach poopty is your perception and opinion, and far from a fact.

Drafting I'd give him a B+

Free Agency D-

Trades C-

Coaching hire C-

Right now his overall grade isn't very good.

- PLindbergh31

I would go higher on the trades. Hartnell is the only bad trade. He traded Vinny and Pronger. He traded Timmonen for multiple draft picks. Those alone should get him a B. Drafting and trading are a strength. He flat out stinks when it comes to FA's.

Other than being a little high money wise, which they rewarded him for intangibles, Bellemare was a solid signing and choice for bringing him back to center the 4th line.

The fact Hextall values Bellemare enough to:

A. Re-sign him
B. Give him a raise
C. Make him an alternate captain

This is pretty alarming to me. There are bigger issues for sure not arguing that. But Hextall isn't responsible for MacDonald, or Giroux's contract. He didn't make those transactions.

- PLindbergh31

Captaincy's are voted on by the players not management...

He should have to answer for Dale Weise.

That turned out bad. Not quite RJ Umberger bad, because Weise makes half of what Umberger made. But still bad.

I believe he meant that good drafts will no longer hide the fact that he has struck out on FA's. The roster also still has a lot of flaws after three years of his guidance.

I am fine with Hextall right now. He was dealt a terrible hand. However, this summer is really the first in which he can do almost anything he wants. No improvement leads to questioning the coach and then the GM.

Weise, Umberger, Gordon. I'd like to know what the NHL scouts saw when they advocated to bring these players in.

Also the term is short and really isn't going to isn't going to get in to get in the way of them resigning anyone. This is one of the more ridiculous complaints I've seen this board take up in some time.

He's really only made one significant Free agent acquisition in Weise if I'm recalling correctly.

Glad to know 4th lines and PK goals allowed don't matter. Thank god for that.

Agreed on the trades. The only bad one was Hartnell. He's made some solid trades getting Gudas and what turned out to be Konecny for Coburn very solid.

Like you said. Principle. How many top tier teams employ veteran 4th line faceoff and pk specialists?

He signed more than one. I cannot judge significance. I look at the group as a whole and he has not brought in one impact FA. MDZ has been good and bad. He is the only one I might consider impactful. PEB, Weiss, Gordon, Schultz have had almost zero positive impact on this team.

The money is more than a little high.

It is bad business to sign a 4th line player to that money due to intangibles, especially considering the way the 4th line and PK have played the past two seasons.

Who else do you want centering the 4th line exactly. He's a decent player who as struggled as the team has struggled. Year in year out we complain about the 4th liners. I'm just over it I guess.

Hell if they are any good I wouldn't mind.

Whatever. I'm out. It's true it's kind of a minor issue, but every move and player counts in this league. Especially on a club that needs to be fully committed to rebuilding and increasing its overall skill level.

That's a valid point.

I'm trying to remember a solid fourth line outside of the Betts/Lappy days.

Laughton, Cousins, any Phantoms center, me. PEB is not decent and he is in his 30's. Play a younger player and see what they got. The 4th line is a line that contributes on good teams. #4thlinersmatter

Fortunately, guys like Schultz, Bellemare, and Weise don't bust your salary cap.
