what I would do to fix the D

1. ship out bogo and gorges, at all cost

2. try to make a trade with the ducks using 2018 draft picks, foligno, girgens etc

3. sign oduya on a 1 year deal

4. with the 5 picks in the first 3 rds, draft 4 d men

We might have to live without a Gorges or a mother year
Gorges-Bogo 3rd pair is "ok" if we can bring in 2 guys to play ahead of them
Not ideal, but I think we're going to be stuck with them

- jdfitz77

with nylander, bailey, asplund, pu, baptsite, and a slew of others up front

I want Murray to draft 4 d men in the first 3 rounds and stock pile them like the ducks

the only way a team can sustain great runs, is to have a full pipeline so you have players on the cheap rounding out the roster

if that means gorges for 1 more year, ok

but bogo needs to go

Sure, but they also didn't have any depth defensemen in their lineup and Chara and Doughty are really, really, really good. It's like saying the Hawks only won 3 Cups with one top pair defenseman too. It's a bit disingenuous.
- Wetbandit1

Disagree
Seabrook & Hjarlmalsson are both top pair defensemen imo

LA & Boston did it with one #1 and a handful of 3s & 4s

If we can get a #1 or 2, GREAT
I just doubt that guy will be available

So...
next best option imo is to bring in two #3s

they should have plenty of money for a 1 year offer that would be hard to match

Murray has Fd up by ignoring defensemen in the draft
In his 3 drafts, he's has 8 picks in the first 2 rounds...
and he's chosen ONLY ONE defenseman

That's a joke
Especially when he was choosing guys like Karabacek & Cornel
Stupid picks

I think Bogo can be a decent defenseman if he can get his confidence back
But I think he needs to stay healthy, and that seems tough
Idk how/if we can get rid of him...
so we might just have to limit his icetime & hope for the best

That's what a lot of non-immigrant Americans know it as. I remember one time in school, I was 6 or 7, and I saw goulash on the lunch menu and was so excited, and when I got it I was like "umm, this isn't goulash." I was so very disappointed. I would just call it pasta with meat sauce. That's basically what it is. I add cayenne to my red sauce normally anyway, and cayenne is pretty close to paprika, a bit spicier and not quite as flavorful as paprika, but close.

Goulash as I know it, cubed beef and pork, paprika, garlic, green peppers, and stock is one of my favorite meals and I usually ask for it for my birthday, although I like it with mashed potatoes, it's also good with egg noodles, or gnocchi.

- Wetbandit1

Hahaha, did you really say that to the lunch lady? Hopefully you didn't get the special recipe with boogers and toe nails mixed in.

franson is probably second best out there

I want ZERO part in Shattenkirk
No way

You know I don't agree with you much, but you are right on here.
He has been ignoring our "D" completely, and he is seeing the results.

Yes, your opinion. They're not. They're both, the favorite adjective on this site, complimentary.

I honestly don't remember exactly what I said. Maybe something like they screwed up and just put it on the wrong day or something. I do definitely remember not eating it and being truly let down for the first time in my life. And I remember my friends all gobbling it up and thinking, as far as a 7 year old can, "WTF is wrong with these people!! That's not goulash!" lol

Regardless...
my point stands that we don't NEED another top pair defenseman to be legit contenders for the Cup

Is it preferable?
Of course

But since they're basically impossible to acquire...
we should try for a couple #3s to build solid depth

That will help us out quite a bit

I know, but I thought the main reason he spurned us for Dallas was that he had a better chance to win there right away seeing as he's at the end of his productive career(he still probably has another 2 or 3 years in him, but they won't be as productive as earlier.

Shattenkirk is a good player...
he's just a BAD FIT for us

-he's right handed, So is Risto
-he's only average in his own end, where we need MAJOR help
-he's very good on the PP, but we are already very good on the PP

So signing him makes very little sense for us

Let NyR go pay 7mil or more for him
Or the Leafs, or Boston, or Tampa, etc etc etc

He just isn't the guy we NEED

Oduya isn't coming here
At this point,
He probably signs a cheaper, short term deal with Chicago, Pitt, Tampa, etc

This reminds me so much of the Remarkably Unfortunate Egg Salad Incident. I was about 5 years old, playing with a friend and his mom made lunch. That's the first day somebody offered me egg salad with olives in it. The world became a slightly less beautiful place for me, that day.

Another thing I've worked on but hadn't posted yet so might as well dump here.

Here are the number of draft picks Murray has traded - 12 in, 13 out. Net loss of one 1st and one 2nd basically:

In: 1 1st, 4 2nds, 5 3rds, 1 5th, 1 7th
Out: 2 1sts, 5 2nds, 4 3rds (one included for Bylsma), 1 5th, 1 7th

Good info Stash, thanks for posting.
I could see them pulling the plug on Ennis, as there is nothing there anymore.
Moulson has been producing this year, and is likely worth the risk for one more year...his buyout for zero production hurts them in the years we could use the money...that said, saving money is saving money I suppose.
Bogo's hit is crazy in the out years...I still think they need to lace his coke with rat poisoning, lol, lol.

I would literally try to give them away before a buy out. Moulson and a 3rd to LV for a 5th or something. And do that with BOGO too. Ennis might have a LITTLE value.
