There is no doubt that changes need to be made, and that was always part of the plan moving forward, regardless of how well this team did this season. Even if they made the playoffs and won a round, Hextall would still realize they aren't there. One thing the Flyers have to be very careful about, and that is not overreact to this season. They need to figure out where changes need to be made, and which players are just caught up in the entire team flushing down the toilet. The Bellemare extension was the right choice. A little more money than I would've liked. Weise was not signed last year with the idea of being a 4th line player. The problem is that the Flyers now have some veteran players who are all in that 4th line range, because of the lack of scoring. I'd like to see some legitimate competition for spots on the roster in camp next season, and not players locked in because of contract. If I was Hextall, I'd look to move a few of those depth veterans under contract this off season if I could. Due to contract situations, it won't be easy.

Well you don't want to move Bellemare and no one in their right mind is going to take Wiess so should we assume you're saying trade Read and Raffl?

I'm saying the Flyers need to make some decisions, and that just like you allude to, contract situations might make the choices for them. They could put together a 4th line of Bellemare, Read, and Weise that could be a solid 4th line but do they want to do that? There needs to be some available roster spaces to upgrade and add some youth.

Yeah, I was just trying to figure out what guys you were talking about. I have no issue with the Bellemare contract and I think Wiess is pretty much stuck here so I think Read and Raffl are the only real vet spots they can open up. Vdv too but we know that's probably not going to happen.

I think this is Vandevelde's last season here.

One can only hope. They've got some kids who deserve shots.

The same product next year....come March should get Hextall fired. We are talking draft picks from 2012, 2013.....this is not being patient....this is drafting 'busts'....and the guy responsible should go. Yes I know Holmgren was at the helm, but Hextall has had time to put his finger print on this team.....to me Hextall is now on the clock.

The guy responsible for the 2012 and 2013 drafts is gone....

Hextall was Assistant GM for the 2014 Draft which they took Sanheim who should be a possible Flyer next season.

His first GM draft... Provorov and Konecny???? I'd say that's an impact.

Draft 2 got Rubtsov who left the KHL system to come to the QMJHL and is supposedly tearing it up.

Hextall was promoted to GM of the Flyers on May 7th, 2014. 2014 draft was held in June.

I misread the lottery date as the draft date still with those 3 years I'd say he's doing OK. Not BUSTVILLE that others are saying.

There are some later round guys that are also projecting to be good.

Morin was a reach when he was drafted, sure. But that pick had finger prints of Holmgren, Hextall and Pronger (who was a scout at the time while on LTIR if i recall) on it.

Everyone knew and even the Flyers said that Morin was going to be a project. Fans labeling him a bust at this point are just being impatient. I firmly believe is this goes as I think it's going to go, we haven't begun to see the level of impatience that will go on among the fan base. They aren't used to this in Philadelphia.

Which means Sanheim and Lindblom were under his watch which both seem to have a good shot at being NHL players. Who knows if they get anything out of Aube-Kubel and Friedman.

If Morin is in the NHL next year, I could see the fans turning on him quickly.
