Giving Polak the least amount of even strength time per game out of all 6 dmen isn't sheltering?

Part of being a good coach is figuring out what you have got to work with and using it as best you can in situations you feel they can handle.

And the coach plays them the least mins and keeps them away from the other team's top lines = sheltered.

Not sheltering, just playing in certain situations that Gardiner is not well suited for.

Yet they kill a lot of penalties against supposedly top players. The difference when you are killing a penalty is there is no expectation of creating scoring chances just get the puck and get it out, which they must have some ability to do as they do it a lot.

Are they being used to drive offence, no, hence the lower 5v5 numbers and no powerplay time. Are they being used to eat defensive minutes, yes.

Remember when Polak fired the puck down the ice for icing at the end of the game last night? Good times..

This.

People see this mistakes he makes but don't see (or care to see) all the plays he does make. He plays tougher 5v5 mins than polak and is a plus player and gets more shots than he gives up while he's on the ice (2:1). He's doing something right

They aren't playing against top opposition, get lest amount of ice time and get their poop kicked in against 4th lines. The only thing they're eating is poop, certainly not
