Why shouldn't it have happened? Malkin prob should have been suspended for his hit, instead he fought sat for 5 minutes and didn't miss any games. Sounds like the best solution to me. What I was saying is stats people like to say the word deterrent a lot, then try to prove that nothing was deterred. How do you prove nothing was deterred? If it was deterred it didn't happen. Tons of cheapshots could have been deterred because people didn't want to deal with Sestito, how do you know they weren't.

Malkin sat his time in the box for 5 minutes last game (and should have been suspended IMO). He shouldn't have to fight the next time WPG/PIT meet. That's bullpoop. I'm all for hard hits, and fighting in hockey. If a fight brews from the spirit and emotion of the game (current, not some bullpoop that happened a few weeks ago, that a player was penalized for), then so be it. I'm fine for a good fisticuffs. But Malkin wasn't going to fight, he didn't even throw a (frank)in punch. He wasnt into the fight at all, he let himself be a punching bag for no reason.

Nothing was deterred because Enstrom went to the hospital being examined for facial fractures because some poor excuse for a hockey player that averages as much time in the penalty box as he does on the ice, smashed him in the wall. (Yes Enstrom turned his back, but it was easy to see Enstrom was in that poopty area, a few feet from the boards that could be a very dangerous hit, even if he hit him in his shoulder) And that poopty hit happened AFTER he fought Thorburn.. for what reason? Thorburn didn't do anything last game,or this game? And that fight was AFTER Malkin already let himself becoming a punching bag.

I just find it weird that after Sestito, the enforcer or whatever people call him, was ejected from the game, the teams started to actually play hockey. Cheap shots happen with or without him on the ice. That is where I stand, I don't think he is a deterrent, because that poop is going to happen regardless of who is on the ice, and it always does. So I would rather see the Penguins put out their best 12 players, and I don't believe Sestito ever falls into that group.

these are love taps compared to what sid has to endure almost nightly.
- taleisyreXIII

2 different players in 2 different eras. Sid is going against D men that are not only stronger. But, they're also faster, more skilled, bigger....

Sid, to me, eludes the BIG hit better than any other player I've seen play. The concussion back in the winter classic was flukey. Sid's edge work, anticipation, lower body strength....All make him almost impossible to line up. The only time he takes real abuse in front of the net.

You have lost any legitimacy with those statements...
watch the replay at 39 seconds:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...indefinitely-sestito-hit/

Guy has to be checked for Facial fractures but they are still waiting for the swelling in his face to go down. He retrieved the puck as he was ALREADY in the process of stopping to move it back up out of the zone, you can both HEAR him stopping and see the Snow from his skates as he is turning to play the puck up.

On top of that to the credit of ALMOST every single person who commented on this, it was a douche play and your fanbase called the player out for it.

- MiloslavHorava

Yeah, Sestito absolutely pulverized a defenseless player making a hockey play. Anyone who's ever played the game knows that the route Enstrom took was the best way to exit the puck. Tommy S knew his back was going to be turned and took advantage of it.

Sid is also a grinder, the dude goes into the corners and has no problem with it. Almost every player is going to take more punishment in the corners. Gretzky didn't go into the corners. There wasn't nearly the board play in the 80s as there is today.

So for a third time how do you know nothing was deterred? If it was deterred it didn't happen. Stop dancing around the question.

Sestito was put on the ice to challenge Buff to a gentlemans duel, Thorburn was put on the ice because Sestito was going to fight someone as soon as the puck dropped and the coach thought it best that it be Thorburn becuase he knows how to fight. I always liked Thorburn.

Back in the day Thorburn was a useful 4th liner. I don't know if that's still true or not, but I like him.

To me, Sid is one of the top 5 players of all time...Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, Orr and Sid....No order because different eras. However, he I probably the least gifted of those guys. Geno has much more natural ability. Sid is simply the greatest grinder to ever play and refuses not to be the best at EVERYTHING he does. I mean, the talent is all world. But, what takes him from great to one of the best is all hard work and being a perfectionist.

Didn't he turn to move the puck up the boards where Cullen was already waiting for the puck? Not the best way to get the puck out if you ask me. Sorta think he was just hoping if he turned his back Sestito would take a break and see what little Endy wanted to do. F him and his face.

Funny, Ryan writes a bs blog saying everything everyone already knows. Sid vs Mcdavid, Shultz return to Edm blah blah blah. The the twerp has to make a snotty comment about a guy hes probably jealous of and we debate that sentence on and off for a couple of hours since the damn game isnt until 9. F my life.

How do I know nothing was deterred? Because there was a pointless fight between Malkin/Wheeler, another pointless fight between Sestito/Thorburn, and a guy who ended up in the hospital and concussed due to a bad hit from a goon.

I really wish we had the old Pens' blogger. I forget his name, but he was much better. Torperzer or something like that.

Also, you're falling right into j.boyd's trap.

Depends on the rink but usually 15-20 bucks for an hour and a half. The rink I'm going to tonight is a mini rink. It's like.. 2/3 the size of regular rink. So we do 4v4. It's fun as hell tho.
