Karlsson for the Norris, Burns for the Hart!!
- LeftCoaster

Burns is having an incredible season. Its funny,
years 1 to 5: Dion was the best dman from that draft
Years 6 to 10: Weber was the best dman from that draft
Years 10 to ???: All Burns.

Karlsson has won 2 Norris trophies. Constantly in the running for it. The narrative he is over looked is old and lazy.

I have to say, it was a privilege to watch him play in the arena last night. They guy plays nearly 30 minutes a game and does so it seems without breaking a sweat. I saw no issues with his defense last night, albeit we are not the offensive dynamo 99% of the rest of the NHL teams are. I keep hoping OEL will be the 2nd coming of Karlsson, but he's a bout a rung or two below. Granite, he is playing on a team that can't control the puck and we keep putting him out there with garbage pair D. Once he gave away the puck in OT and I saw Karlsson had it, I started for the exit.

I do think at some point OEL will be up there with Karlsson. I just hope that we in AZ get to enjoy it before his prime has past....

Maybe if he broke a sweat he'd be better defensively, produce a little more, and have another Norris trophy.

Maybe his teams would make the playoffs and get further than they normally do too.

Bigger question/dilemma to answer

Is Karlsson better than Gardiner?

Are you or aren't you Unholy Goalie.
You appeared on the blog scene right around the time he and all his alts ceased to exist. He used to drive up hits on all the Leaf blogs too. You've always been a suspect in my books.

Chauncey?

I tried making this joke several times.

It's waaaaaay too highbrow for this crowd.

Which is a shame, because Jake=Chauncey.

Karlsson has this stigma attached to him which the average hockey fan assumes.

People think he is the same guy as he was in his first three seasons, a point producing, strictly offensize D-man who isn't good in his zone. But what people dont get is he is dominant in his own zone just as much as the opposition.

It's not even close. The guy is the best defenceman and offensive dman in the world. Period. He shouldve won last year as well, he shouldve won the year PK won, but had his achilles injury. Last year though took the cake of people who just don't know how good he is. The fact he lost to Doughty is brutal as he was far and away better. He has never played with a true #2 or even a #3 Dman. Methot is borderline a 3, but more like a 4.

Now, there is this year. He is on another planet all-together. The guy dominates in every zone. He leads the lead in blocked shots. Plays PK. PP. You name it. He changed his game to suit the style of the coaches system and still controls the play.

Now, Burns is good. But he isnt in the same breath as Karlsson. He has two Norris' already and by the end of this season, he should have 5. This whole thing that its 'Burns time' like it was Doughty's time, is nausiating. Scoring 30 goals is impressive. But when you are compared to Mike Green, Kevin Hatcher etc, that isnt anything to ride home about. Karlsson should be in the conversation for the Hart. Shouldnt win, but he should be mentioned in that breath.

Hi James!

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Flames now, considering you think they're a terrible team, your own words for about half the season.

Are we singing a different tune now or is it all luck?!

No, you just dont watch his dominance on a regular basis and probably just go on the narrative of the MSM who doesnt either.

"He has holes in his game"

"He makes too many errors"

"He is one-dimensional"

"He doesnt play PK. Doesnt defend"

Etc. Etc. Etc.

All of this is completely false. Like factually 100% wrong.

Um. No - he isn't.

Burns is good, yes. But there is Karlsson then Burns, then everyone else. And I'd say Burns is still a few notches below at that.

With the emergence of Hamilton as an elite player and the second line really just tearing it up, I have to say I really like the Flames now.

I still worry about their overall depth and Brian Burkes fingerprints on the team, but they're doing better than I thought they would, absolutely. I don't consider them as lucky as say the Senators or Canadiens to have their record.

James, everyone in the HB community knows who UG is. Me thinks your's is a denial a little to entrenched in unholy truth.
