We’d be wearing different shoes. Back then, we had the veteran team and they had the young up and coming team.

Was so along though.

- Tumbleweed

they had some vets as well...just not as many as us.

Oddly enough, I think the Penguins or Rangers are the best matchup. Mostly because the Sens and Habs bore the living (frank) out of the Leafs forwards and make them sulk and lose. The Rangers and Penguins play much more up tempo and that falls into the Leafs all attack style better.

leafs have chased the king and holtby a couple times if im not mistaken

I don't think anyone really wants to play the Pens... they have only gotten better since last year...

Odds on they have to be the favourite, even though the Caps might look strong.

yeah, i can see a playoff series with the Sens adding fuel to the provincial rivalry. it'd be a good series. the only thing is that i think the difference would be on D... I think the Sens would get the edge in the series due to the D superiority...

whatever he did here, Phaneuf is actually doing well in Ottawa. Karlsson is one of the top players overall in the league, not just among d men.

Not sure why Toronto didn't shore up their major weak point...

- kaptaan

No sh!t.
In Lou's mind...Marchenko was "shoring" it up. Although he has been decent.

It would be so Leafy to play the sens and have phaneuf have a great series.

we played the sens close so far. i think it would be a tight series.

sens won't have 3v3 where karlsson can be dominate or our achilles heel of the shoot-out to rely on either.

I'm guessing prices were high and the management team has much more reasonable expectations of the team than us

Honestly, the caps dont worry me until they prove something in the playoffs.
Their regular season really doesnt mean anything.

Ceci is a bottom pairing dman playing way over his head right now and phaneuf has been decent.. Sens D isnt great but Karlsson is what makes their D better then the leafs..

Meh, my expectation of the team was that they could make a run for the playoffs.

Here we are.

Ceci is a 4th dman.
Phaneuf has had a pretty good season.

Their D is pretty good.

Maybe they think it'll be worth it in 2 seasons to go all in... but then other teams like the Oil with McDavid might be really dominant, Eichel might get some support by then, the Peg might get it together... the whole landscape could be different.

i think if you have a dangerous team you have to take the opportunity that you get and go for it. Toronto has a solid goalchie and solid forwards (scoring and defensive), but a crappy d... why not expend some treasure on getting that in order to set yourself up for a run this season and next...

Agreed except for not addressing the D. I think they're playing with house money as they've already far exceeded expectations. Getting into the playoffs would be gravy but even if they don't the pursuit of the spot in a late season race also provides very valuable experience and hopefully increases their hunger going into next season.

Management is still playing the long game and I'm fine with that as opposed to trying to force a move that may be detrimental long term. Still a lot of uncertainty regarding the cap and expansion which muddies the waters. The off season should bring more clarity and hopefully the deficiencies on D get addressed then.

Nope. Not when it comes to the caps.
They've dominated the regular season for several years and choked in the playoffs.

For me, I dont care what theyve done all season....they need to prove it in the playoffs.

Thats what I was meaning.

My point was more that they weren't willing to spend any prospects or quality picks to squeak in knowing that this is not a contending team. I'll be disappointed if D isn't addressed in the off-season but couldn't care less about the TDL non-moves.

Agree. I would love to face the sens in the first Rd. I'm not saying the leafs win but it would be there best chance to advance. I don't think it would be a blowout anyways.

Oh I didnt want them to go all in.
Just wanted depth d.

they are not ready for any type of all in trade.

a couple of moves to get at least one top 2-3 D man who will stick for the next 3-5 years would have been a good pickup and would be a reward for the effort from the players this season. Sends a nice message to the players that Mgmt believes in them and their effort and wants to give them a chance without blowing the bank.
