Bonino is nice, but I'd rather sign Shultz for a moderate rate and pair him with a defense minded partner.

Assumption is Bonino will be too expensive for Pens, so who do they get in the $4 mill/year or less range to replace him? What UFA do the Pens pick up for 3rd line duties?

Pens can trade for Record Breaker Riley Sheahan who now has 84 shots without scoring a goal. A new record of futility for forwards.

I am sorry. I think you may be under the impression that this is a conversation. For that to be, you need to know something.... bring some knowledge to the table. Running around yelling 'triggered' is just basic.

The wonderful thing about triggers
Is triggers are wonderful things!
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!
But the most wonderful thing about triggers is
I'm the only one
Triggers are cuddly fellas
Triggers are awfully sweet
Ev'ryone el-us is jealous
That's why I repeat... and repeat
The wonderful thing about triggers
Is triggers are marvelous claps!
They're loaded with vim and vigor
They love to leap in your laps!
They're jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!
But the most wonderful thing about triggers is
I'm the only one

Just an example of players I'd rather have;. Marleau, Bishop, Radulov, Oshie, Shattenkirk, possibly even Vanek or Thornton.

Must be the worst list of UFAs ever. I'm only guessing, because I know Shattenkirk is UFA, but that's all I know.

I'm not sure if you're laughing because you think Nashville is going to destroy LA or vice versa?

Bonino is a role player & nothing else.
On most any team he wouldn't even be in the convo.
3yrs/2.5m is all he is worth

Thank God the 'Hawks will continue to be crunched against the cap.

What a disappointing list of FA's this off-season. I feel bad for teams that are going to have to spend to meet the floor. Worst class I think I've ever seen.

It amazes me that someone so obsessed with the Flyers isn't keeping better tabs on arguably their biggest rival. This analysis of Bonino reeks of having no clue what's going on with the Pens, tuning into last years playoffs, and making a big assumption due to a big performance in a ~20 game span.

A) Its HBK not RBK. If you can't even get that right, you really just don't know what's going on.

B) Kessel actually had/has great chemistry with Malkin. Hagelin-Malkin-Kessel was looking like an extremely dangerous line before Geno went down. Bonino didn't unlock some secret gear with Phil, it just took a while for The Phil to find his groove here and him getting going happened to coincide with Geno going down and being put on a line with Bones.

C) Last year, Bonino did a lot of good on the HBK. He was the glue guy, but he was no means the reason for that line's success. That line was built on the foundation of the relentless speed of the Hagelin/Kessel combo and Kessel was always the backbone of it. Bonino just happened to find a niche and played well in it.

D) Bonino was trash last year until HBK and has been mostly disappointing this year as HBK hasn't really been clicking (but not nearly as trash as he was last season). My conclusion is that HBK made him, and not the other way around. His success seems to be predicated on playing on a specific line, and its dangerous to pay players that need such a specific situation to succeed top 6 money.

If Bonino is the third most valuable UFA in this year's market, its because this UFA class is very week, not because Bonino is that good. Bonino is a fine player, and at 1.8 mil a year he has excellent value, but anything north of 3 million is an overpayment for him. If someone wants to give him 5+ mil a year, I will shake the guy's hand, thank him for everything he did in Pitt, maybe even throw him a good bye dinner, but then I'll drive him to the airport myself and look for a 3C elsewhere.

The Old Man found Matt Cullen who was about to not be signed by anyone. The year before that he found Blake Comeau (remember that guy?). I have complete faith in his ability to sign effective players to bargain prices, even if they're just short term stop gaps. If Bonino goes for ~5 mil, let Ruth do his thing, and if we get a guy for just a year, he'll do it again next offseason and the season after that until he finds his guy or Sundqvist (who has begun to exceed developmental expectations) proves he can be a 3C.

I played pro-line last night and took these 3 games as a tie.

$550.00 buck a ding dongs.

Going rate for a solid 3C is $3.5-4M. That is what Bonino will get and that is fair for him. He might not be having a great year but he is still a good player. Pens will need him to have another strong playoff this year.

Not sure the Pens will pay up for him, but there is no way in hell the Pens roll into the season with Sundquist as the 3C. That's just not happening. Guentzel possibly could but the Pens might want him in the top 6.
