Eichel is a beast, and that is just typical Canadian Media focusing primarily on the Canadian team's elite young players. The amount of All-Star young talent that's entered the league the last few years is really exciting for the future of the league (if the Zebras actually start calling holding and grabbing like they did right after the lockout!).

I think USA SHOULD take at least Silver if all NHL players are allowed to go to the Olympics, and they don't have Torts coach again.

Kane, Eichel, Matthews, Saad, Suter, Johnson, Kessel, McDonaugh, Shattenkirk, Parise, Paccioretty, Big Buff, Wheeler, Johnny Hockey, Pavelski, Seth Jones, Zack Werenski, Nick Leddy, John Gibson, and the list goes on.

Yeah they basically take half of your "bonus" back...

- jochfr

Yeah, I mean, I never understood the context then. We were 20, fresh out of High School still and all he kept saying was he didn't want his life to go nowhere, he wanted opportunity that he didn't want to be like his father working the same damn place for 30+ years busting his ass for poop money...

I mean, I got it then to an extent but his mentality was a lot less care-free than mine at the time. Half the reason he joined was for the money to get a car, apartment, etc...

But then he only got some of it, and in a few different disbursements throughout the year. And then he went and worked at Wal-Mart stocking shelves for 3 or 4 years for poop pay.

He eventually realized that since he signed up for like 7 years, I think it was, that his only bet was to brown-nose his way into an armory or a base. As far as I know he's miserable and hates it because instead of being stuck working the same factory job for 30+ years, he's stuck working the same paper pushing job for 30+ years at not much more of a pay grade and having to deal with just as much, if not more politics within the workplace. And having to worry about getting (frank)ed over on his pension or his job because EVERYONE wants those jobs apparently. There's a lot of competition.

You would know better than me, but at this moment in time, I would not feel safe or comfortable leaving the US to go on vacation. I'm not downplaying the potential for a terrorist attack in this country and maybe someone could produce studies that I would be just as safe out of the states, but honestly feel like I'm looking for trouble leaving the country. That's too bad. I'd value a vet's perspective on this.
- Hatboro_Swords

I don't know about "this moment in time," it's been since February last year that I was out of the country, but I have never felt at risk of "terrorism" any time I was ever visiting another country.

I was VERY worried about Good Old Fashioned Crime when I was in Brazil (Rio) for about 8 or 9 months in the early 2000s.

And I have been to Canada (doesnt even really count), Mexico (3x), Dominican Republic(5 or 6x), England, France (4 or 5x), Belgium, Spain (2x), Germany (lots), Austria, Switzerland, Holland and many of the Caribbean Islands. I felt safe in all those places. All post 9/11.

Oh, and I have been to Springfield, Ohio, too. That's a more dangerous and weird place than any of the other places listed.

Around 1996... I was stationed at Ft. Campbell and they wanted me to go there after my tour was up. I said I'm not reenlisting if I have to go to that cesspool.

I'm wasn't a grunt so I wasn't about to be treated as one.

LOL. I was a grunt, so i get it. HAHA. And Korea in the 90s is a lot different than it is now. I was there in 2008. Only thing i didnt like was the curfew, but it was in place for obvious reasons.

With 100 mil in cap space and 2 picks in the top 12. They can be good this year if they dont bomb the draft.

LMAO not with Assweiler as their QB. He's trash. Houston got out of that at exactly the right time. They realized their mistake and traded him for a bag of deflated footballs.

I don't follow football all that closely, but doesn't Cleveland draft a QB basically every other year? Did they last year?

Some Russian in Washington (I swear this isn't a political post!!!!!!!) may be someone that perhaps should have been called out in a worthless article like that long before some 2nd year kid in the media's whipping-boy city of Buffalo

Hey I think you deleted a post I was about to reply to...

But I explained it above. I mean, my life experiences are mostly with working-class/poor as that's pretty much what I am, not gonna sugar-coat it.

It's not so much about learning how to read a contract as it is being thrust into life with no skills, college opportunity or life experience and being told to "FIND A JOERB".

According to our President Elect, there's 94 MILLION unemployed adult citizens in America. I did some math before he said this last week, and my number was more around 50 Million unemployed.... But even then that's ridiculous.

Add in about 10 million in all the branches of the ARMY and reserves and somewhere around 60 million jobs in about 10 different fields and manufacturing isn't even one of them, with less than 2 million manufacturing jobs at this point in America and you have a lot of people with no work to go around.

That's why so many uneducated/poor/trash people end up joining the service thinking it's their way up in life. But they simply don't have the know-how to see further than "I'm getting out of my dirt town and doing something with my life" 90% of whom end up back in their dirt town working in a factory. Nor do they have the education to make a career out of it, nor do they have the smarts to play the system.

There's a reason the poor stay poor and the rich get richer, that's how the system is set up.

I'm sure those articles exist for many players, I stand by the comment that they're completely stupid articles.

Eh... Can't remember the last guy they drafted before Manziel, but they also trade for and sign journeyman QBs a lot. Delhomme, RGIII, Pryor (now a WR), Garcia, etc...

Yeah... maybe they flip drafting a QB high and signing a bum. In this case trading for one. The only guy with worse throwing mechanics still in the NFL is Kaepernick. And Tim Tebow is the WOAT.

Maybe. I just don't think they are wrong.

People forget that Pittsburgh and Chicago won cups while their stars were Eichel's age or a year older.

That's not me expecting a cup this year (or compete for one), but it should be sooner than later.

If anything, the article is a year premature

As I mentioned though, the rebuilding was in place a bit longer with those teams than it has been with Buffalo. Not that Buffalo has been good for what, 2-3 years prior to the 2 tank seasons, but they weren't complete bottom feeders like Chicago and Pittsburgh were (without me looking back for solid numbers).

And at least in Chicago's case, they hit on at least one deep draftee in that period who is a main core piece that Buffalo doesn't have like that in a top d-man.

Ok, but Ovechkin has been around how long now? It makes sense for someone to bring Ovechkin up in that sense at this point in his career. But to say that about a player in his 2nd year (one in which he missed 1/4 of the season) seems to be a bit premature, IMO.
