I still don't get the wasted part....how is anything wasted if the guy is going to be that for 10+ years? No team recently has won more than what 3 cups in how many years (what's Chicago at?)...so one great season is gone...not like other stars on actual cup winning teams haven't had good seasons, yet somehow a guy on a team no one ever predicted to make the playoffs has wasted a good year. - stashu
Chicago has 3 and if I'm remembering correctly it took 6 years for them to get those 3. I think if they were to make it this year it would be their 4th appearance in 8, but I could be off a bit on that. It also I don't think takes into account the years prior to them making it to their first Cup final. To put it in perspective, Kane was drafted in 2007, so 9 seasons ago. |

Didn't have the chance. Were you with Big Red 1? I heard PT was awesome there because you would run through the towns and by these little shops and stuff. And a train ride from all the good spots. (Red Light District ) |

You would know better than me, but at this moment in time, I would not feel safe or comfortable leaving the US to go on vacation. I'm not downplaying the potential for a terrorist attack in this country and maybe someone could produce studies that I would be just as safe out of the states, but honestly feel like I'm looking for trouble leaving the country. That's too bad. I'd value a vet's perspective on this. |

What country were you in when these ex-military soldiers were telling you about how great the country they were living in was? - Hatboro_Swords
Uh. The United States. I've had several co-workers who've been in the military and a few friends as well. Pretty much all of them resent America. I don't blame most of them, they get absolutely (frank)ed over most of the time with SSI, Va, etc... Even had a friend promised 10,000 by his recruiter 'just for signing up' and he ended up with maybe half that.
I mean I'm sure there's a lot of guys living large after being in the military, but they usually weren't working-class and went for some kind of engineering or technical position. Working-class get (frank)ed at every turn in life. We should be furious but we're complacent and it's sad. |

I have a co-worker that took a 1 year contract in Saudi (he's "former" military) and literally was put up in a resort there. He was showing a bunch of us the website and it was sick. We all lost sympathy for him. |

Never saw those articles about Hall or Nugent-Hopkins either.
Guess Tavares is wasting away in NY.
and MacKinnon...he's really being wasted.
I get what they're saying in a way, they just did a very poor job of it. |

Around 1996... I was stationed at Ft. Campbell and they wanted me to go there after my tour was up. I said I'm not reenlisting if I have to go to that cesspool.
I'm wasn't a grunt so I wasn't about to be treated as one. |

Yeah, I'm not trying to make what I say sound like be-all end-all. Just shedding light on the perspectives and narratives that we don't usually hear about.
Most people I know who've been stationed in Germany (frank)ing loved it there.
But terrorism is not any larger a threat now than it ever was throughout human history. We just have social media and News outlets reporting it the second it happens now.
But there's a ton of places outside of America where being an American with even a small amount of money will allow you to live like a king.
Shenzhen, China, for example is a hotbed right now. Tons of 30-something Americans with a small amount of savings (we're talking small-business amounts, so something along the lines of up to $100k) are opening up basically sweat shops, small production facilities, restaurants and bars, etc... The Chinese are a huge consumer market, everyone speaks English who isn't a peasant, and they LOVE American culture and style. These lower-middle class kids are jumping to petty bourgeois business owners who exploit the minimum wage in China which is equal, I think, to 3 dollars American.

Some Russian in Washington (I swear this isn't a political post!!!!!!!) may be someone that perhaps should have been called out in a worthless article like that long before some 2nd year kid in the media's whipping-boy city of Buffalo |

The point is why is it necessary to say Eichel is being wasted but we've never seen anything about any of those other guys?
Is it true in a way? Sure. But they're almost making it seem like this is a rare occurrence and clearly it's not. |

Correct or not, it's a stupid article...last I checked it takes more than 1 skater to win a cup, and this team hasn't had a foundation as deep built up prior to success like Chicago did when it finally landed Kane. |
