Again it works both ways.

He gets the player he wants, while also not worrying about said player improve a team in the stretch run of a tank for a franchise player.

He made the trade for Kane because he wanted Kane. He made the trade for Kane WHEN he made the trade because it also helped secure one of McEichel.

Just because you say otherwise when people at the time on here when the trade was made also said it would help get one of McDavid or Eichel. Just because it doesn't fit your narrative doesn't mean it's not true.

The Sabres traded for someone who couldn't play that year...it's pretty simple.

The Sabres were very close to not finishing last and they could have Strome right now and not Eichel.

This is true. GMTM absolutely made this trade because he wanted Kane. Stafford was not a stud by any means and Meyers showed us he was playing at the top of his game as a rookie and there was not much upside.
