Is it just me that every time NYR wins a close game it b/c their goalie STOLE it for them. NYR was even in shots and scoring chances. Tampa did have the puck a little more in 2nd and 3 rd period, but IMO NYR played well enough to earn the win. Tampa's goalie must have STOLE it for Tampa as well....untill OT that is
Just seems like people think that other teams goalies don't make big or timely saves as well to help them win. I could see if NYR got outshot/outchanced all game, but that wasn't the case. - rrentz
ya i hate that shyt, everytime our goalie has a good game the bloggers(not you Jan) and twitter feel the need to apologize for it
they wanna talk all the time about howe Hank is under appreciated but yet when the goalie plays well thats THE ONLY reason they won. GTFO with that shyt |

100000% agree on this, which is why my first comment on this blog was that Vasieivsky stole a point for Tampa last night |

Whomever. I don't hate Staal, but talk about bad contracts. That would be a nice one to get off the books in the next couple years. I know it wont happen though - mdw7413
The more and more I watch Staal play the more and more scared I get of his contract.
He gets the puck on his stick and its like he has never played hockey before. He doesnt have an ounce of offensive ability.. its straight line and shot, like he cant even stick handle a bit. He grew up on skates, with two brothers.. did they NEVER let him play forward or skate with the puck?
Unfortunately his injuries make him gun shy about taking hits so he hesitates going into corners, and if a fight breaks out he has to hold on for dear life, so he doesn't get hit.. I don't fault him for that but it sucks.
He's not an offensive defenseman, he cant be overly physical because of injuries, so we are going to be left with a bear hugging defenseman who has to rely on poke checks and stick checks.
Again I dont fault him for his injuries, but what he has left to offer and him slowing down is pretty friggin scary |

yep, if it weren't for Olli Jokinen this would be our 12th straight year in the playoffs
amazing considering from 98-04 it seemed they'd never make it again |

Its always, "if you didn't have Hank, then NYR would suck!"...Now its "If Raanta didn't play the way he did than NYR would've lost"
No one talks about how NYR always seems to play teams when their goalie is at their best. Every NHL team wants to beat the Rangers, and they get up for the games against them. One could say that NYR gets the best from every team in NHL more than any other team. Kinda believe the reason NYR is better on the road is b/c when teams play at the Garden, many of them play better than nights when they are at (i.e. Barklays Center, or other non discript places)
NYR doesn't play too many games when teams are "off" |

Yup, that contract is buyout proof too. I will say he is very good on the PK, but its because he doesn't have to cover a large area.
The funniest was how far Raanta came out last night when he saw the puck chipped past Staal and Hayes. He was almost at the blueline.

I think capfriendly used to have incorrect information on the Marc Staal buyout, because now when I do it, it's not as bad, doesn't have that 5.5 million hit in the final year anymore
it isn't that bad, he could be bought out in a couple of years I think

I kind of agree he struggles, but he still has moments of solid play or plays. He may have saved the game last night blocking Kucherov with I think about 15 seconds left. That's eye injury really was the start of it and then concussions, it's a shame |

As a defensemen it is a huge help having a goalie who comes out to play the puck, settle it down, or in Raanta's case, twice last night he came out to play it instead of sitting back and waiting for a potential breakaway or what could have turned into a breakaway. wish Lundqvist would come out more often.. but him handling the puck is a trainwreck! lol |

You're right. But in this case, with the high number of good scoring chances at both ends, I would have said the goalie stole it for whichever team won.
NYR did look good. Even on the PP (more than usual lately), just couldn't put it home. |

3 brothers!!
Not sure what happened to Jordan (the youngest), coming into junior they said he was going to be the best of the family. Then he got drafted by Carolina, never to be heard from again. |
