if you lock kane up at 6.5 per

assume eichel is 8 per
skunk is 5.5 per

that gives you

ror 7.5 per
eichel 8 per
kane 6.5 per
okposo 6 per
reinhart 5.5 per
risto 5.4 per

6 players making 39 mil

assume your paying 7 per for your other d man, worst case
and 5 per your number 1 goalie, worst case

8 guys (core) making 51 mil

pens top 8 make 50 mil
hawks top 8 make 54 mil

something to think about

(frank) him and his agent if he thinks he should be getting 7 years at the second highest total AAV of any sabre (well 3rd highest when eichel gets his deal)

That's doable for a year or so. The tricky part comes when you have to re-sign all of your depth players.

The thing about teams like the Pens and Hawks is that they proved they could win with that core.

We have 0 clue we can yet.

I'd be okay with having that much dedicated to the "core" if we have the success the Pens/Hawks have.

There need to be a lot of complimentary pieces to make it work, and we are definitely not quite there.

I heard Kane wants 7 years at 6.5 per

I'll do 7 years @ 6 million and be fine with it if Murray can find good blueliners

there would be little wiggle room 3 years from now if we have 4 or 5 prospects blossom

and the 5 million dollar d men that suck would need to be replaced with vets on the cheap and entry level players

agreed

not sure if that was a hard line, or early talk for conversation

it's south of 7 per, if accurate which is a good sign

he's young enough to make that deal

is the "top" money contracts up to snuff as the hawks and pens

I think the bottom 4 paid players in that group is actually better than what the hawks or pens have

The real masters of pro sports manage role/depth players. Realizing which ones you can afford to keep and being crafty in replacing the ones you can't. You can't fall in love with these guys.

Wurd. He and Moulson are both 3 years left correct?

To me that's kinda not good. Both of those situations holding us back. I would be MUCH more comfortable if next year was the final year for their contracts.

Those depth players are those 3rd and 4th round picks that turn out to be good 3rd/4th liners, 5-7 D men.

bogo 3 more years
moulson 2 more years

eichel and reinhart get a raise in 1 more year
mccabe in 2 more years

He is going to get it somewhere.

It's a 1.25 million per year raise from his current contract

Make that number a $750K raise and I'm good

If that is their first offer that is a very good sign. I was worried he was going to come in at $7.5 per or more. If $6.5 is their starting offer my guess is his final deal is somewhere between 6 and 6.25 which isn't bad

Estephan has passed Pu in the point totals.

Estephan- 30g 50a 80pts
Pu- 34g 45a 79 pts

Pu has played in 6 less games than Estephan but not bad for a 6th rd pick.

This, plus we always have to think about the future with a rising salary cap. I'm not saying waste money to do it, but remembering that what seems like a ton today could be a good deal comparatively tomorrow.
