Cost to replace him would be ? And who? There isn't a bunch out there. GM would want to do the trade, Player would want to sign if a UFA? who is out there?

Don't get me wrong, I like the player, and the dollars don't bother me, but the years are the issue IMO. I lot can happen in 6-7 years, especially if he continues the PPYP (problems per year pace). Factor in injuries due to his style of game as he ages and shooting percentage, and the whole thing looks dicey. By year 5, you could be looking at broken down, ostracized player. 4 years, 6.5 mil i would do. If i had to guess, his agent won't talk anything under 5 years

He'd be 29 lets slow down on that talk. Its not like the deal would take him into his 30's.

He's right at 13% this year, with a career average of 9%.

During his hot streak he's shooting I'd guess close to 18-20%.

I don't think a guy just "gets it" one day and doubles his shooting %.

As far as a Kane extension goes with the type of style he plays if his agent brings up 8 years and anything above $6.5 per year I am trading him.

I love his game right now, I actually have all season even when he wasn't scoring he was playing balls out, going hard on every shift.

But that style is not good towards the body.

If they want 8 years $6 million per year tops is what I go.

If they want 5 or 6 I could go $7 million per assuming Reinhart signs a bridge deal.

Poach a d from a team that has too many good D (Carolina, Anaheim, Minnesota) right before expansion.

Year 5 of a new deal would take him to 31-32. He's going to be 26 and his deal won't start until 2018

Fair, but keep in mind, he's had a lot of injuries already, and players statistically (usually) peak by 26. You're really retroactively paying him more for his best past years. With his style of play, Kane at 30 could be Gionta at 35

Don't know if you guys had seen this yet. It's from Eliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts blog on Sportsnet. Enjoy ....

11. Boston added Drew Stafford right at the deadline. They were in on Radim Vrbata, and, at one point, some of the other teams in that bidding thought the Bruins would get him. Sounds like they also took a look at Dmitry Kulikov, but could not work out something with Buffalo.

12. Speaking of Buffalo, I think Nashville was one of the clubs that took a look at Evander Kane. Don’t think it went very far.

13. Sabres GM Tim Murray quickly shot down any idea that Alexander Nylander would be available. The 2016 first-rounder has struggled at AHL Rochester. Word from a couple of team execs recently scouting in Sweden was that Nylander’s disappointment reached home. But it’s way too soon to give up on him and Murray knows that.

He will be 27 the season his new contract kicks in. A 5 year deal takes him to 32. That's about as long of a contract I would go for him.

Edit: Late

Another reason why I wanted Murray to sell at the deadline.

He could have had 2-2's 2-3'3 2-4's plus another pick to use as bait towards guys that cant be protected.

Not that Lucic is as good, but power forwards like them start to wear and tear around 28-29.

Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry have been similar

When things leak you always gotta think who wants it out there.. IMO it's not buffalo and most likely and GM that wants nylander.. hopefully a nonstory

That's way too favorable to the player IMO. We all like the goals, but keep in mind this guy has 11 assists this year. He's not a regular on the PK and he's not great defensively. If he wanted 8 years, I would try to sign him at current salary. I would go 7-7.25 if that cuts the years in half. You can't pay him more than O'Reilly, though

My take on that is that he's disappointed about how this season has gone for him and he's talked about it with people he knows in Sweden.

The fact he says it's a couple of team execs makes me wonder. There was talk here that he wasn't thrilled with having to play in AHL but who knows how true that is.

I should have kept it instead of trading it in.
