Right move is to see where the budget is at after July 1st. Figure out extensions for the pair, talk to kane's agent. If there's no way to keep him, trade him before the season. I wouldn't roll into next season without knowing he'll sign.

if the forwards were the problem, our powerplay would have been garbage both this year and last. But it wasn't because when they have the puck, in the offensive zone, they are actually pretty good at creating and scoring.

The problem? at 5 on 5 we are doing a terrible job of

a)limiting time in our own end, time which could be spent in the offensive zone

b) getting the puck up ice into the offensive zone without turning it over, icing it or simply being unable to complete a pass in the neutral zone.

But i can't see a scenario in which we can actually afford that both in terms of cap or in assets needed to acquire those d-men.
