I wouldn't. I'm not sure the Avs would either because he's the only defender worth a damn on that team.

No way i do 8x7.... if he had played this way consistently for the last 2 years he was here i would. But im just so nervous he will regress... which i don't want. But right now he looks like a legit 35g a year guy if he keeps playing the way he is..... and they don't grow on trees. Especially ones that hit and get to the corners, back check etc. You can argue either way for Kane and that is what makes it so hard!
- CoHo_to_B-Lo

Despite what some may think, Kane is actually a very consistent offensive producer. No matter how many games he plays, he scores in the range of 0.63 ppg per season. I did the calc the other day, if that's off, whatever, not the point. His numbers do not vary too far from his average. He's a unique player. His offense alone probably gives him Tyler Ennis money. But he brings a lot more of that to the ice. Probably 2m a season more. But then you take into account his off ice issues. That reduces his term and maybe half a mil.

Of course I don't know how negotiations work and all the factors that go into it. But if Murray ended in a 6-6.5mx4 yr, I wouldn't be disappointed.

You mean, formerly bust EJ?

Guy who everyone wrote off because at 23 he still wasn't a top d-man.

I didn't think players could get better?

I believe he said after 15 and 23 first and then Kane. I'm on the re-sign Kane train.
- mhp

I'd definitely like to see what he wants as far as an extension, but Murray said if his agent asks for 8 years and big $$ it's going to be tough.

They, IMO made their decision with Okposo and ROR.

I just don't see 5 big $$ forwards locked up when we haven't made the playoffs or fixed our blueline

Look at the names in this trade.

on February 19, 2011, Johnson was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, along with Jay McClement and a conditional first-round pick (that Colorado used to select Duncan Siemens), in exchange for Chris Stewart, Kevin Shattenkirk and a conditional second-round pick, which St. Louis used to select Ty Rattie.

Three questions that need to be asked are

a) can you actually afford to tie up that much money up front long term
b) can you add and build a championship level defence without moving him
c) Is this the real deal or just a man playing for his pay day?

They don't. If he played 82 (He will probably never) he would average around 50 points with 25 goals or so. Which is solid as hell, but in reality not that special.

Johnson
McClement
Siemens

for

Stewart
Shattenkirk
Rattie

That's like the most even 3 for 3 trade ever.

This. Especially when your centre is jack eichel, it wont be hard to find a guy who can replicate that level of production at less cost.

Which is why I wrote the whole paragraph. And seeing as he doesn't vary from his average, My guess is he's scoring close to 60 pts a season.

These numbers are arbitrary when you have 7 years of him not doing it.

If this was his 2nd year I'd have no problem projecting him as a 60 point player, but he's not. He's come within 3 points of 60 once, and hasn't been within 19 points of 60 since

You proposed a scenario of 82 games, and I responded with evidence that he could achieve such with 82 games. I would say a max of 60, maybe upper 50's.

If he's looking for 7+ for 8 years I'm not so sure I would do that. I would rather invest that money in D then. But if we can get him for 6-6.5 I would like to do that. In 2018 Gorges comes off the books and if we don't buy them out, we'll only have one more year with Moulson and Ennis so there should be money available, plus we don't know what the cap number will be.

Someone is going to have to leave a good Forward unprotected.

Use a 2nd rd pick to trade for one of those guys.

This is the biggest factor IMO. If it goes up 3-5MM over the next 2 years I see no issue. If it does not. big issue.

I think Vegas takes a chance on either Bogo or Ennis if we leave both exposed. Buying out Moulson next season saves us 2.2 million on the cap next year and 1.2 the following year. 19/20 and 20/21, he's about 0.83 on the cap. I can't imagine a BO this summer unless we're really that tight to the cap with a new defender.

Even without there are always good buy low candidates. Pittsburgh did well to get hagelin for a guy who basically did fit anywhere in their lineup anymore.
