I love how Benning made our team considerably worse and virtually guaranteed that we'll be fighting for last place overall for the foreseeable future - and everyone thinks he's doing a wonderful job!

His job isn't to get us Nolan Patrick, it's to get us the Cup. These trades guarantee we aren't even going to be competing for the Cup (heck, even the playoffs) until the 2020's at the earliest.

So, yes, he managed to get a good return. But, no, he didn't make our team any better in the short-run (or even the middle-run).

Also, just remember this... We have a team filled with AHL quality youngsters who need to learn - and we just gave away the only two veterans we had who always left everyting out on the ice. The only two. Wouldn't want the kids to pick up that habbit!

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

So, how exactly do we compete for the cup without the talent to do so? And how do we get said talent without bottoming out?

Riddle me that mother(frank)er.

Edler has a full NTC
Trading Tanev would leave us with no capable top pairing D-man
Erickson and his contract... well who is going to take him.
And as far as the Sedins, name a team that is willing to add 14 million in 2 players who are currently on the downhill of their careers.

sometimes you have to be REALLY BAD in order to become really good. Sometimes you have to rebuild, and sometimes you have to have really high draft picks.

Kane, Toews, Crosby, Ovechkin, Doughty, Malkin. Can you tell me what they all have in common?

I am just curious because you seem to understand hockey really well.

True, but you clearly are. Remember most on here are smarter than you. We see through your thinly veiled hate.

HB has always had a resident shmuck. This time it's you. But you will be replaced shortly when EK grows tired of your BS.

Edler would likely waive his NTC to go to a contender. Who wouldn't?

Tanev is 27 and given the soonest possible date the Canucks could compete, and the premium placed on defenseman, trading him makes sense.

Erickson is a pretty awesome player, despite the off year, lots of teams would want him.

The Sedins? Like I said, it'd take some creativity, but if you're NHL GM, is that too much to ask? Worth a shot.

Edler would have done it already... He does not want to move.

Erickson @ 6 mill a year is not playing like he is worth 6 mill a year. I am not sure a team takes on that contract for what he provides, especially right now.

Even if you retain 50% of both of their salaries (which the Canucks can't because I believe they only have room to retain 1 more person's salary), that's 7 million dollars for 2 players that are 2nd/3rd liners on most teams right now.

Why are the Sedins not traded yet? Don't they want to have a chance to win a cup somewhere else? They do nothing to help your team progress. Plus they're twin gingers, which in itself is what nightmares are made of.

its due to the fact that you "barely remember they exist out there" that you'd think any of your "ideas" are remotely possible or even logical.

Edler's made it clear he doesn't want to go anywhere. Plus, he's brutal and the only contenders are Chicago, SJ, Pitts, Min, Wash and none of them want phawking Edler.

Tanev is the only player that could've been moved but it probably won't be until after the entry draft.

Eriksson just got here, contract is a doozy and its hard to think they'd give up on him after a year. Highly doubt he's going anywhere.

Now, name one team that could afford the Sedins? Then name one reason why they'd waive and agree to leave and go to one of THOSE teams. ZERO SENSE.

For someone who cheers for arguably one of the worst franchises in sports history, maybe you should go back to worrying about your own disaster.

why havent you guys made the playoffs in the last 4 years and counting?
And why do you pay Ryan Clowe, Marc Savard, and Adam Foote nearly 15 mil of your cap?

Speaking of nightmares, sounds like you got plenty of your own.

BTW? Hows Kovalchuk playing this year?

That's what Tanner does. Notice how he ran away like a little school girl after I put him in his place. He's just sitting back ready and saying "yes, I'm almost to 50 posts".

Buffalo Sabres. Not offloading one UFA, or improving the awful team in the slightest was excellent work by our GM who seems to be a lot less arrogant now than he was 2years ago

I also have a scolding take on my boys calling Vancouver the winner.

You can't win when your team sucks and you're unloading. This is like when a certain lunatic recently gave a speech that was lauded due to the fact the bar so low that all he had to do was get through it without sexually harassing anyone or bullying any disabled people or minorities.

ON this bell-curve, Jim Benning wins the day. But I think the team that actually tried to get better has to get the credit.

Geez, I was just going to post that even when the canucks do really good you can't bring yourself to say it....you are such a tool.

This would have taken minimal research. He has been asked about waiving enough times that every knows he has zero desire to leave, thus his NTC. The team had a small window before it kicked in but didnt get it done

If Vancouver really had the best day, Edler wouldn't still be on the team. They might have gotten multiple pieces for Chris Tanev. Erickson would be gone, hell, a creative GM might have found the Sedins a new place to play.
- James_Tanner

You're right. We should have kept Burr and Hansen. He would have been praised for keeping the core together for another cup run.

You are wise.

The NHL doesn't work like that. You can't trade 5-6 core veterans who all have ntc's within a week.

1) it's impossible to negotiate those many significant trades in that time period

2) Eriksson was just signed, even if the GM regrets the deal, you just can't ask a player to waive his NTC just months into a 6 year deal. Not a good look.

3) There's only so many teams that these veteran players would waive to go to, and those teams may or may not have the interest of the cap room to make it happen.

4) I'm all for a full rebuild, but even id say it's important to at least keep a couple of respected veterans in the locker room.

5) Believe it or not, some of these players who give up millions of dollars in order to have a NMC/NTC intend to actually stay put for the sake of their families and personal comfort. They pay for that right.

I'm the furthest thing from a Benning fan, but he did a solid job at this TDL
