34 points in 72 AHL games in his first season

43 points in 50 AHL games in his second season

Made the NHL after that

As long as they progress, I definitely agree that they shouldn't be given up on. Which is why I like the Dahlen and Goldobin additions, both have progressed since being drafted.

Burrows was more of a mini miracle story, you won't find too many players in the NHL with a similar resumé

I remember a few posters on here (not all) suggesting that last year's draft was poop and outside the top 4 or 5 the rest of the player's were awful. So they were happy with the picks going in the McCann and Gudbranson trades. Now the Nucks traded for a player from the 2nd round last year (a good trade) they're happy as a pig in poop.

The glory of us Hockeybuzz posters eh?

I said when Benning was hired that it was an eight year cycle because of the situation Gillis left us in. Look at that... four and four makes eight....

- boonerbuck

Oh you smarty pants.

Too bad you ain't smart enough to listen to other people's opinions.

And eight years sucks. Don't be so accepting of mediocrity.

I remember a lot of people being hyped for Mathews, but after the lottery saying "He's not even half as good as Eichel so I don't get why anyone would be excited"

Yeah. It's what fans do right.

I think Eichel is a damned good player as well. Never seems to get mentioned much now.

I love these Toronto fools that think they have an elite team now

What a joke 4 points out of bottom 10

Rebuild over now they can get their 15 th pick overall

Yeah I'd be giddy if the Canucks had either.

I remember one guy in here talking crap about Eichel because he "only" scored 24-32 as an 18 yr old and had already hit his ceiling.

Teemu Selanne who didn't win a cup until he had a HOF defence and a in-his-prime McDonald, Getzlaf and Pahlsson anchoring his team at center?

Jarri Kurri who played on teams with (frank)ing Gretzky and Messier down the middle?

Any rumours? I don't think Benning is doing anything else now, we'd have heard something by now that there's only 45 minutes left.

Yeah, they're in a great spot going forward. They've got an above average G locked up. 4 real good peices on D in Zaitsev, Reilly, Carrick and Gardiner. And a whack of talent in the pipe up front.

Not quite the days of when you'd hear about Tyler Biggs and Korbinian Holzer as future stars.

I think people don't realize that its a wild card challenging team that has like 7 rookies playing big minutes on it.

So let me get this clear. We are two and a half years into an eight year rebuild.

I really wish this would have started after AV got fired. Gillis should have gone with him. This team was too much AVs team. Hell, he practically raised most of his difference makers.

Hindsight.

You really do pride yourself on turning everything around don't you?

You are the one who categorized everyone on here in groups and anyone trying to rationalize about the situation here was labeled a "circle jerker"... people with their varying opinions were all grouped into a single opinion and ridiculed... when your opinion was challenged,,, you would start your routine about people having jizz in their ears etc... striking from the band wagon...

Keep selling yourself as this open minded person.

In a division that's nowhere NEAR as hard as the Metropolitan and a Conference that doesn't have Chicago, San Jose, Anaheim, Minny etc. in it. Let's see how those rookies do next year after the rest of the NHL has a chance to adjust to them.

Only thing I am hearing the Canucks doing is taking on a LW contract for a draft pick. Hearing no roster player/prospect to be traded between now and noon (obviously could change)

Rebuilds can go horribly wrong. We clearly needed a do over after getting hosed on the lottery last year.

And that's great. But now JB has to build. How long is that going to take at this rate?

Still have the twins. Another year to jettison a few more vets. Four years to tear down maybe more. Another four to build?

I know I need to have patience but it's hard when you are faced with the timeline.

- bloatedmosquito

Maybe if you saw this as a rebuild the whole time with JB it would make better sense. He's not perfect and made some mistakes with Vey etc. and taken some risks to be competitive while getting younger.

It's just not a black and white fire sale tear down from day one rebuild. Which many desire. Reality dictated otherwise. He added layers with younger players. Developing draft picks. As they come into play maybe that will show you more. The main issue is the lack of a superstar. Lotto didn't give us one so far.

The one time out of lotto draw JB got BB which we have good hopes for top 6. The parachute draft for JB he took JV which is still in development. McCaan turned into a young experienced D like Guddy. Still building just from the back.

The writing was on the wall last year and even the year before. The 2015 team might have been one of the biggest paper tigers in NHL history.

I'm just glad they're getting around to it now and hope that the direction doesn't change another 3 times over the next year again.
