Which was his right. How did Benning f*ck that up?
- Marwood

The screw up was waiting until the last minute, wether that was his decision or ownerships, it was a mistake. Clearly Hamhuis was willing to waive because eventuallly he did, but by then there wasn't enough time to complete what would have been a pretty complicated deal. I agree with WhitLie, when Dallas was low balling them it wasn't a mistake to walk away, but given more time it's possible he could have gotten something done.

Also Dallas (one of the very few Dan would waive to) preferred Russell and was working Calgary and Vancouver to lower price. Definitely keep me on the side of not selling an Olympian from the season before for a 4th round pick. Wasnt hurting the tank job and that 4th rounder is a long shot regardless of JB's draft success

I would also imagine the late start on negotiations was due largely from Aquaman pushing for a playoff spot revenue

- WhiteLie

Also, don't forget the two owners hate each other. You think Auilini would sign off on a Hamhuis trade for a 4th round pick? No franking chance.

Thank you. A voice of reason. !040 didn't help by going on & on about last years TDL.
- Marwood

I get the frustration, I was shocked no move was made but if your handcuffed with trade partners by the NTC's and the buyers are lowballing you I didnt see the point of making a move. Having Hamhuis around for another 2 months helping shelter a couple rookie D and let them learn from him was probably as beneficial as Dallas's 4th round pick Rhett Gardner being in the system...

You don't know when Hamhuis was asked about a trade. Only Benning, Linden and Hamhuis know that.

Hamhuis said all year long he did not want to be traded. He finally succumbed about 48 hrs prior to the TDL when other GM's completely low-balled Benning. Benning was f*cked either way, not trading Hamhuis & half the fan base has conniptions, trade him for a 4th and the other half loses it's sh*t because Benning didn't get enough for a former gold medal Olympian.
- Marwood

no he didn't, but Hamhuis did waive for the stars, and the stars wanted him. I would have hoped that Benning would have taken a 5th even for Hamhuis, but meh, no point dwelling on the past I guess.

People will always find a way to throw Benning under the bus. Benning gets 2 incredibly valuable prospects and a pick that could be a 1st round for 2 older players and yet, he is still criticized for not getting rid of the Sedins and their contracts, Miller (even though Markstrom is hurt and we would have to call up Bachman and Demko as our 1/2 if we traded him. Benning can do no right at this point. How people are not ecstatic over what he accomplished in the last 48 hours is incomprehensible.

Benning looked bad and that's fair. Fans were expecting a move. But it's ridiculous to ignore the factors involved. I just read on Canucks Army that Benning botched moving a "premium asset" in Vrbata at the deadline. That's why our fanbase is so hysterical. We have irresponsible/ incompetent media in this town.

I've not had 1040 on or read every page of these threads, but my impression is that people are pretty happy with his work this TDL.

If you are looking at it strictly from a prospect point of view, you gotta give it to Boeser.
If you are looking at it from a development point of view, than Goldobin I think instantly becomes our number 1 forward call up IF he isn't a regular.

Not the way I saw it. Hamhuis said all season long he had no intention of waiving. Again, his right not to. He eventually caved in to the pressure and decided to waive, by then transaction were in full swing. I don't understand how management 'f*cked this up'. Clearly, Hamhuis was not willing to waive. I think you have been braiwashed by the local media.

I agree he is a bad, meddling owner. But I wouldn't fault him if he vetoed a trade for a 4th to his nemesis in Dallas. Imagine your enemy tried to lowball you and then used your asset to win a cup!

Goldy is still a prospect. I'd say he's the furthest along but I would still put him behind OJ and BB in potential. Dahlen would behind demko and ahead of Gaudette.

He is learning. Just look at miller. Handcuffed him same as vrbata and hammer did. Cgy flipped the 2nd and joykipakka for lazar. So pretty much trade Russell for lazar.
